Fawn Season Reminder

It’s fawn season, and we want to gently remind everyone: please do not disturb, pick up, or take fawns that appear to be alone.

They are not abandoned. Mother deer often leave their fawns in a safe spot while they forage and will return for them. This is normal behavior, and the fawns will be okay.

State Park Rule: 59.134 (BB) Wildlife:
It is an offense to: (1) Harm, Harass, Disturb, Wildlife, or portions of wildlife from a unit of the state park system, Except by a permit isssued by the director as provided by the Parks and Wildlife code, Chapter 62, Subchapter D.

Please help us protect our wildlife by giving them space.

Also, please always watch your speed in the park during early mornings and late afternoons. Wildlife is more active during these times, and slowing down helps keep everyone safe.

Thank you for your cooperation,
Lake Whitney State Park Staff

💥LBJ State Park and Historical Site ~ Texas Parks and Wildlife.

The LBJ State Park swimming pool will open this Wednesday, June 10th. I know everyone has been eagerly awaiting an opening date and we appreciate everybody's patience as we have been working through a significant plumbing repair in the bathhouse.

Unfortunately, we were unsuccessful in hiring our full slate of seasonal lifeguards. We were able to fill four of the six positions. Because of this, there will be some periodic closures of the main pool and the kiddie pool will be closed for the duration of the season in order to be compliant with lifeguarding safety requirements. We will post schedules weekly on Mondays or Tuesdays so everybody knows what to expect as they plan their visits.

There will be a few new additions to services/amenities provided this year, though! Ice cream will be available for purchase to give you yet another way to cool off in the Texas heat! We will also be adding lounge chairs for some extra seating options. Those should be arriving sometime this month and will be out as soon as we receive them!

We hope to see you at the pool! Here is this week's operating schedule.

💥 Mustang Island State Park ~ Texas Parks and Wildlife

Today three Aplomado Falcon chicks from a nest box at Mustang Island State Park were banded by The Peregrine Fund researchers. These chicks are approximately one month old and are nearly ready to fledge. The Aplomado Falcon is endangered and closely monitored by the Peregrine Fund who provide the nesting boxes. The two nesting pairs can be viewed off of Hwy 361 at Mustang Island State Park. Bring binoculars or a scope and ask a Ranger where you can safely view them year-round.
