How sad. Culling of "nuisance" cats. Had the city and shelter supported local TNR organizations and offered low cost spay/neuter services. They wouldn't be forced to implement mass euthanasia.

NOTICE: Cat Trapping in Designated Area

Lockhart Animal Control has received reports of nuisance cats causing health and safety concerns and will be trapping cats in the coming days. Traps will be placed in the areas of W. San Antonio, Medina, Fir, and Bois D’Arc Streets.

Cats are individually evaluated once trapped to determine whether they are appropriate for TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) or placement in the adoption program. Final placement depends on multiple factors, including whether the cat is a nuisance, has a reliable food source, displays social behavior, or would do better living away from people. These considerations help ensure the best possible outcome for each cat.

We do not want to remove owned cats.
If you live in this area and your cat is not already microchipped, please bring your cat to the Lockhart Animal Shelter to be chipped. The normal cost is $15; however, if you bring a current rabies vaccination certificate, we will waive the fee, microchip, and register your cat FREE of charge.
⚠️ This offer is only valid through Saturday, January 24.

If your cat is already microchipped, please take a moment to ensure your contact information is up to date with the microchip company so we can contact you if needed.

Keeping your cat indoors is the safest option. However, if your cat is allowed outdoors and wanders off your property, please be aware they may be inadvertently trapped. All trapped cats will be scanned for microchips, and owners will be contacted for reunification when applicable.

🚫 Please do NOT tamper with traps. Interfering with animal control operations is unlawful.

Per Lockhart City Ordinance, all cats and dogs within city limits must be microchipped, registered, and up to date on rabies vaccinations.

Hello, I wanted to reach out and update everyone who has followed us and those who are new here. My name is Melissa and I’m the Executive Director and Co-Founder of Kingdom Rescue. I’m a mother of 3 children, ages 17, 14 and 9 and have been married to my high school sweetheart for 25 yrs. We have 5 dogs, 4 donkeys and according to my Husband, too many cats.

I have been rescuing animals since I was a child. I started fostering, helping with adoption events and volunteering at the Animal Defense League in San Antonio while I was in college. Later I went on to volunteer at Bastrop County Animal Shelter and Paws Shelter in Kyle. It has always been a passion and calling of mine to help the innocent & defenseless. Those who can’t protect or speak for themselves. After a lot of prayer, God was leading my team and I to start our own independent rescue -Kingdom Rescue. We became a non-profit 501(c)(3) in 2021.

When we first started, the animal situation was bad. Fast forward almost 5 years later, and the immediate welfare of animals in need of rescue is more dire today than ever.

Our team has learned a lot during these past 5 years. We have rescued over 840 cats and 200 dogs, not to mention farm animals such as donkeys and goats.

For an entire year we ran a cat shelter while simultaneously operating our rescue. In that time, we personally transported 40 cats and 1 dog to Kentucky and 1 dog to Georgia in rented vans. Additionally, we have taken over 1,000 cats to be spayed or neutered.

Two things we know for certain is there is an overpopulation crisis and we can’t rescue our way out of this. We are inundated with calls, emails, and pleas everyday. The dumping, neglect and cruelty never stops.

We are a small foster-based rescue comprised of volunteers with families and full time jobs. We fundraise, drive to vet visits, drive to fosters houses, transport animals, hold adoption events, handle adoption screening, social media, answer calls & emails, stay up with sick & dying animals. We pay for a lot, out of our own pockets and try to avoid asking for money too often.

The time, exhaustion , emotional & mental stress has taken its toll on everyone of us, our families and fosters. I share this because it’s important to me and our team to be transparent. We are focused on helping people and animals. The best way we can do that is by focusing on spay and neuter services. The overpopulation crisis will continue to get worse if we don’t start addressing the root cause of issue.

Kingdom Rescue has partnered with Loving Pet Assistance and held 6 spay and neuter clinics in Luling, TX and Caldwell County.

We are determined to do more clinics in the neighboring counties; especially in high dumping areas. However, we need the community’s support to be effective. The scope of this problem is beyond the available capacity and funding of both shelters and rescues.

As I write this, today we are in the process of rescuing a Mother Dog & 5 puppies. They were living in a field, the puppies eyes aren’t even open. The shelter has received 5 more calls, just today, with Mom & Puppies and no space available at the already full shelter.

The fact is, we have vet bills at Vet Clinics. At this time, to be fiscally responsible, we have no choice but to stop rescuing; until we can pay off our vet bills.

Please help us move forward in addressing the animal overpopulation. We need your help paying the vet bills for the animals already treated. And of course, as all rescues, we have ongoing daily cost of medicine, food, cat litter, housing, spay and neuter, etc.. Any donation amount helps.

Please share this link with any one who may have a heart to help. We always need fosters and funding to continue saving lives and reduce overpopulation, sickness and suffering.

Look out for our updates, as we will be posting more of an inside look at our ongoing operations and events.

Thank you for your support,
Melissa

We just launched a fundraiser is to raise $399 for a larger catio enclosure for our adoptable kittens! 🐱 This catio will be placed inside Pet Supplies Plus in Seguin, giving our kittens a safe, roomy space to play while meeting potential adopters. Your support will help us reach our goal and give these little ones a better chance at finding their forever homes. Every dollar makes a difference—will you help us get there?

We have had a smaller catio at PSP since July 2nd, 2025 and have already had 9 adoptions in less than 2 months!!! Imagine what a laeger closure could do for more kittens with our rescue! ❤️🐾

A valuable asset to the area needs your help. They helped spay and vaccinate many of the cats in Lockhart and many more in the region.

Our goal is to move to a larger space to expand our services for animals and the community—but we need YOUR help to make it happen! We need $100,000 for the down payment and every dollar brings us closer to a future where more pets get the care they deserve. This new location is only 15 minutes away from our current downtown San Marcos location! Donate today and be part of this pawsitive change! ❤️🐾
