Kusewera We empower and educate children through our active and creative play programs. Our community center is in Malawi, Africa.

We offer free kindergarten in the mornings and after school programs to primary and secondary school children in the afternoons.

Anitta Chirwa has been promoted to Program Coordinator and we couldn’t be more excited. Starting as a volunteer, to part time staff then full time… Anitta’s dedication, leadership and creative skills proved to be an important combination for her new position. She helps manage the morning classes, guides our Girl Power Initiative and afterschool programs assuring Kusewera stays on top of existing and new programs and projects all year round. Our kids got to watch Temwa TC6 Chawinga Tabitha Chawinga and Malawi’s “on fire” Scorchers team beat Zimbabwe 2-0 and the match did not disappoint!! Grateful that electricity and WiFi stayed on for the whole match!! Go Scorchers! ⚽️ 🇲🇼

Congratulations to Doreen Chafulumira (Doreen Collete Chafu) on becoming our Operations Manager. From volunteering, to being hired as teaching staff, and 2nd lead to now running overall operations for us at our community center… this is what hard work, dedication, commitment and growth looks like.

We recently hosted our partners with the Kuwongola Initiative who facilitated a soap making training for our Women’s Group and Girl Power Initiative.

They didn’t just teach how to make soap—which is a valuable aspect of hygiene and disease prevention—they discussed how a simple skill can become a source of income and create independence in their lives. These women and girls will continue seeing the benefits of these new skills. 🧼

Appreciation for our groundskeepers! We are so grateful for the hard work they put in daily to not only keep our grounds and buildings beautiful, well kept, manicured and clean… but they keep our crops growing for the food program. Our team lead, Charles, and his crew are such a huge part of our Kusewera family and teamwork.

The Coaches Across Continents Global Day of Play at Kusewera was a great success! The energy was high—both our team and guests had a fantastic time participating in the day’s activities.

We ran a variety of interactive games throughout the day that kept everyone engaged, active, and connected—spider web, water pong, high jump, running races, balloon caterpillar, lava walk, hula hoop races and more.

We were thrilled to host visitors from Bhubesi Pride Foundation Foundation and members of the Chambo Scout Troop Malawi who joined in on the fun and contributed to the spirit of the event.

A special thanks to Eunice, who stepped in to lead and facilitate several of her own engaging games for the group.

It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate play and build connections across our community.

Thank you Wilma—we wish you well on this next adventure of your journey. Kusewera will always be your home.

Wilma Saidi began as a volunteer in 2018, while she was in nursing school. She started working with Kusewera in September 2022 and quickly became our Director. Her leadership, mixed with a joy for life proved to be a powerful combination as she led our team in Malawi. As she moves on in her journey, tackling the challenge of a masters degree program, we are grateful for these past several years with her. We look forward to her visits, volunteering and continued support.
