Hello friends of trees,

The forecast looks like a stretch of sunny days, with no rain - we need your help!

𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘆𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀, 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗮 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀?

Rich and Cheri Martin of the Buchanan Tree Friends have been working hard to keep all the trees we have planted around town (100+) regularly watered, but could use some help keeping them hydrated.

Our favorite thing to do! Other than planting trees. 😏

🌳 - Go find a tree at your local public garden to hug or simply photograph at your local public garden, arboretum, museum, or zoo! Share your photo on social media and tag the garden you visited—you’re welcome to tag us as well so we can feature it in our stories. Happy plant and pollinator photo hunting!

We are still looking for help for our annual spring tree planting tomorrow! Don’t worry - you won’t need to dig at all! The holes are ready, and the trees are placed. We just need volunteers to plant, cover, and water. Training will be provided at 12:45!

We had the best time at Buchanan Middle School last Thursday to celebrate Arbor Day with the fifth graders.

Special thanks to Sawyer Garden Center for donating Sugar Maple saplings for all the fifth graders to plant at home! They also donated additional saplings to be planted at the Middle School for the Maple Project, where students tap maple trees and learn to make syrup.

Thank you to the Buchanan Honor Guard for attending and to Buchanan Mayor Mark Weedon for reading the official Arbor Day proclamation.

Did you know that Buchanan has been designated as a Tree City USA for more than 30 years?

In 1976, the Arbor Day Foundation partnered with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters to launch Tree City USA. The program is grounded in four foundational standards: a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, annual expenditure on community tree care, and an Arbor Day observance.

The Buchanan Tree Friends upholds these four standards each year in order to keep our Tree City status.

SAVE THE DATE!

Our annual Spring Tree Planting will be on Sunday, April 26, beginning at 1 pm.

We will be planting in multiple locations, including the new Dewey St. walkway, Veterans’ Memorial Park, the Duck Pond area, along the outside of the dog park, McCarty’s Well Drilling, and Buchanan City Hall.
