Announcing our FILL THE CARROT CAMPAIGN! πŸ₯•

We need your help to raise $30K before our Farmyard Jam on July 25th. We're off to an incredible start with $15,322 raised already--over halfway there! Let's keep the momentum going. πŸ’ͺ

Every Farmyard Jam ticket sold counts toward our goal, so get yours now before they sell out!

When you support Growing to Give, you support people like Connor at the Cumberland County Food Security Council to provide culturally appropriate veggies to people in need. We think that's something worth celebrating. πŸ’š

On Saturday, June 6, from 8am-10am, we're going on a blueberry rescue mission!

Even some of our regular volunteers don't know we have blueberries on the farm because they've been so thoroughly overtaken by grass. We’re planning to remove the grass around the base of the plants, mulch them, and prune them. We’d love your help!

Visit https://growingtogive.farm/get-involved/ to learn how to sign up to volunteer with us, then sign up for the first shift on Saturday, June 6th to help rescue the blueberries!

SUPER EXCITING farm update!

This past winter, the folks at Colby Co. Engineering generously offered to build a farm play area for us, and we kicked off the project last Friday! This play area will provide a much-needed recreational space for kiddos to use while their parents or guardians spend time volunteering. AND it's in the shape of a ladybug--could it get any cuter? 🐞

Colby Co. came out with lots of enthusiasm and a great attitude (as usual!). They de-sodded and excavated, placed logs for seating and to act as a natural border, and filled in the cleared ground with wood chips. The play area will feature an interactive herb garden, a mud kitchen, and more!

Special thanks to Brooks Feed & Farm Supply and Coast of Maine Organic Products for donating the soil we will be using in the herb garden! We are so grateful to Coast of Maine's Growing Good Program for helping us getting the next generation of hands in the soil!

Stay tuned for more updates once we officially break ground on June 11th 😎

As the saying goes, many hands make light work--and we sure felt that at the farm today! A super energetic third grade class from visited us today to help crimp our cover cropped plots that are planted with rye.

They quickly set to work crimping using a variety of creative strategies including crawling, somersaulting, dancing, and wheelbarrowing! We then covered the plots with tarps and sandbags to kill the rye cover crop and make way for tomatoes. After a few weeks, we'll use the straw as soil cover for our plots. Thanks as always to the Maine Coast Waldorf School for bringing your A-game!

Another awesome group from Norway Savings Bank! This powerful crew rescued one of our upper plots from being totally overtaken by grass, edging and woodchipping a barrier alongside the plot. This is a spot where we regularly lost vegetables to grass and had a hard time fighting back the weeds. Their hard work will save us so much time and so many veggies!

In addition to tackling that heavy edging project, they also amended and broadforked an entire plot, planted two beds of lettuce, and weeded, weeded, and weeded some more. AND made time to befriend the goats. Thank you Norway Savings!!!

Huge thank you to James Fagan from Fagan Tree Service for the much needed woodchip re-supply! These pine woodchips are already helping keep our pathways weed-free, and the pine scent re-energizes us each time we walk to the tool shed 🌲 We really appreciate these donated woodchips and James for his time and labor!

We had SO much fun hosting our Open Farm Day this past Saturday! It was incredible to see just how much our community has grown over the past year.

Visitors got to hop on a farm tour, learn all about our new volunteer task forces, and even take a sniff of soil from our lasagna compost beds (if they were brave enough)! It's the little moments like these--sharing the rich scent of freshly turned soil with someone new--that remind us of why we cherish this work.

If you couldn't make it to Open Farm Day, don't sweat it! You can still sign up for volunteer shifts this season, no experience necessary, at https://growingtogive.farm/get-involved/ 😎
