Today we are highlighting Chen Li, a student at ProjectArt who exceptionally shined in our program this past April.✨

Chen takes ProjectArt classes at the Bushwick Library Branch in New York, with ProjectArt Resident Teaching Artist, Noormah Jamal. This spring, students participated in a creative project in which they explored illustration styles from books available at their library and created various animals each week with different mediums and collages.

A Note from Noormah:
“I have done collage work with them before. Once when making the empire state building and then when working on a lions mane. This week the scales were smaller so it required more concentration and focus, helping sharpen their fine motor-skills. I love how some of my students just jump in and experiment throughout. While others students are very particular and stick to a color theme or try out a new pattern.”

Take a look at what one of our Detroit Library branches has been up to the past few weeks.

📍In Sherwood Forest library, excitement is high as students prepare for their upcoming Exhibition! This project allowed students flexibly revisit foundational techniques like still life-drawing, portraits, and sculpture. Each class was designed with one primary exercise, but gave students the opportunity to refine something they’ve already started, or create new works that they would like included their show.

Thanks to our resident artist India Solomon () for designing this project!

We wanted to highlight a student who shined exceptionally in our program this past March: Leah Kuentzel✨

Leah takes ProjectArt classes at the North Central Library Branch in Miami, with ProjectArt Resident Teaching Artist, Silvana Soriano. In March, students participated in a creative project that introduced them to self expression through exploring the unique realm of printmaking portraiture.

A Note from Silvana:
“Students love printmaking – the surprising results are a big draw. Expressionism, centered on emotions, excited them (as I expected!). Most enjoyed the process and were open to try multiple times. Leah, normally quiet, talked a little about her and other works, surprised me with her enthusiasm and even took the risk of producing more images.”
