GIANTS WIN. BROOKLYN WINS. AND WE’RE JUST GETTING STARTED!

In honor of the New York Giants’ big win over the Dallas Cowboys, we’re throwing it back to a day when football took over Brooklkyn’s Betsy Head Park in Brownsville!

On August 29, the National Sports Zone Foundation (NSZF) and Friends of Brownsville Parks hosted an NFL FLAG Community Showcase at Brooklyn’s $30 million Anchor Park, bringing together over 100 young people, families, community partners, and football stakeholders for a free, coed day of football, competition, and fun.

Every young player enjoyed a beautiful day and walked away with an official NY Giants NFL FLAG jersey, belt, and wristband. But here’s the bigger play…

THIS WAS NEVER JUST ABOUT ONE DAY OF FOOTBALL.

It was about turning capital investment into community impact. Betsy Head Park demonstrates what happens when public investment + community leadership + quality programming come together. Now, we’re building on that foundation with a 2-year comprehensive Flag Football activation initiative in partnership with the NYC Green Fund.

The next phase takes our FLAG initiative to our newly renovated $54 million Thomas Jefferson Campus sports complex (Scheduled to be open this fall!), creating a larger platform for football, school athletics, coed player development, and significantly more opportunities, including developing a dynamic girls’ football strategy, working with the Women’s National Football Conference (WNFC), and the Got Her Back Foundation.

From there, the vision expands across the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Brownsville, East New York, East Flatbush, Fort Greene, and Red Hook, connecting parks, schools, coaches, youth organizations, and community partners into an interconnected football network.

Special thanks to Mark E. Weingerger, P.C., Attorney at Law, the NFL, the NY Football Giants, NFL FLAG, Parks Foundation, for Parks, the NYC Green Fund, NYC Parks, our football partners, community leaders (Wise Guys & Mo Better Jaguars) and everyone who continues to invest in Brooklyn’s young people.

🚔🏀 Honoring Police Service. Building Trust. 🏀🚔

This National Police Week, the National Sports Zone Foundation honors police officers who go beyond the badge, showing up on the court and in our neighborhoods as coaches, mentors, and leaders. 💙

Through projects like Building Bridges Through Basketball and the United Basketball Community League, in partnership with the New York City Police Department and the New York City Housing Authority, we are strengthening neighborhood safety by turning courts into spaces of trust, structure, and opportunity.

👮🏽‍♂️🤝👦🏽 Public safety in action:
• Officers leading on the court and present in the community
• Youth building confidence, discipline, and direction
• Safer neighborhoods rooted in trust and shared responsibility

💡 This is public safety redefined, here presence builds relationships, and relationships build safer communities.

🏀 This week, we honor those who protect, serve, and lead with purpose.

Steward of Impact Award – The United Way of Palm Beach County | LaTosha Wallace 🏆🤝🏅

Real leadership shows up before recognition, stays through complexity, and endures long after visibility fades. In communities too often overlooked, mentorship becomes infrastructure, building pathways, strengthening environments, and shaping lasting opportunity grounded in presence, accountability, and a deep commitment to every young person served.

Today, we honor National Sports Zone Foundation Master Speed Coach LaTosha Wallace for her sustained commitment, care for others, and measurable impact in the lives of young people. Recognized as the United Way of Palm Beach County’s Mentor of the Year (2025) and a Steward of Impact Award recipient (2026), she reflects what authentic, community-centered investment looks like in practice.

Her work aligns with core philanthropic priorities focused on people’s needs: stronger systems, equitable investment, coordinated youth development, cross-sector collaboration, and measurable outcomes that matter.
