2024 Honoree Spotlight: Danil Shabatay

Danil is a dynamic healthcare entrepreneur and technologist dedicated to improving health outcomes and quality of life in underserved communities. As a serial entrepreneur, he has successfully launched and scaled multiple healthcare startups with community-centered solutions, blending strategic leadership with operational expertise to expand access to care and drive innovation at the grassroots level.

In his current role at Amerihealth Group (AG Care), Danil pioneered a Patient Care Software platform that leverages telehealth and diagnostic tools to improve access for chronically ill patients, particularly in marginalized communities. His vision has fostered partnerships with healthcare providers and insurers, creating more comprehensive care models. With expertise in regulatory compliance, financial management, and operations, he ensures care delivery is high-quality, sustainable, and impactful.

Drawing on prior experience in capital markets at Accenture and Goldman Sachs, Danil brings financial acumen that strengthens the sustainability and growth of healthcare organizations. This unique blend of healthcare and finance allows him to design patient-centered models that are also economically viable.

Beyond technology, Danil has shaped policy, procedures, and training systems to better equip clinical and administrative staff. From workflow design to revenue cycle management, his initiatives support stronger community health infrastructure. 2024 Honoree Spotlight: Dr. Claudia Schrader

Dr. Claudia V. Schrader became interim president of York College, CUNY in January 2024, serving as the College’s 8th president. With decades of leadership in higher education, she is committed to transforming lives through education and elevating opportunities for students across New York and beyond.

Before her appointment at York, Dr. Schrader served as president of Kingsborough Community College, provost and senior vice president at Bronx Community College, associate provost at William Paterson University, and associate provost at Medgar Evers College, where she also held tenured faculty rank. She has also taught at Teachers College, Columbia University, Bank Street College, and the College of New Rochelle. Her professional service includes peer evaluation for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, membership on the AACC’s National Council for Black American Affairs, and a three-year term on the AACC Commission on Diversity, Inclusion and Equity.

Known for her signature leadership style and student-centered approach, Dr. Schrader launched the “Welcome Wagon” in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, personally visiting new students across the five boroughs. This initiative improved retention, boosted graduation rates, and received coverage from Spectrum News NY1, NY Daily News, InsideHigherEd.com, Forbes, and Positive Community Magazine.

Her impact extends globally. She co-chairs the JFK Redevelopment Community Advisory Council Education Committee, is a Life Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, and serves as president of its Eta Omega Omega chapter in the Bronx. For over 14 years, she has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity’s Global Village Program, helping build homes in Brazil, El Salvador, Vietnam, South Africa, Ghana, Kenya, Indonesia, Ethiopia, Malawi, Zambia, and Thailand.

2024 Honoree Spotlight: Matthew Pincus, MD, PhD

Dr. Matthew R. Pincus is Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. He received his MD and PhD (in Biochemistry) degrees from SUNY Downstate Medical Center and performed his residency in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Pincus is Co-Editor of the classic textbook in Laboratory Medicine, Henry’s Clinical Diagnosis and Management by Laboratory Methods. Dr. Pincus’ has a major interest in cancer detection and treatment and has developed a new anti-cancer drug (PNC-27) that kills cancer cells but has no effect on normal cells and is currently developing with his colleagues a new marker that allows us to identify cancer cells in biopsy specimens. In addition, Dr. Pincus and his colleagues have performed recent studies on the occurrence of prostate cancer in the African American and West Indian population serviced by SUNY Downstate Medical Center that suggest how this cancer can be detected at an early stage.

2024 Honoree Spotlight: Dr. Matthew O. Jones, M.D., FACC, FSCAI

Interventional cardiologist Matthew Jones, MD, FACC, leads the healthcare team of BKLYNCardio and is affiliated with New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist hospital. Dr. Jones was born and raised in Brooklyn and is passionate about the cardiovascular needs of the community. He collaborates with patients through a patient-centric approach, helping them navigate a path to optimal health and wellness. His clinical insight and technical expertise in cardiovascular care allow him to address the peripheral and cardiovascular diseases epidemic.

Dr. Jones, a Morehouse School of Medicine graduate, completed his residency at New York-Presbyterian Columbia University Medical Center and his cardiology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Jones completed his formalized training with an interventional cardiology fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center.

Dr. Jones is passionate about the intersection of technology and medicine. He is the founder and CEO of Everbeat, a medical device startup focused on bringing a novel smart ring technology to the market, centered on cardiovascular wellness optimization and disease surveillance. He is excited by the prospect of this innovation revolutionizing healthcare delivery and wellness optimization, ultimately improving patient outcomes.

He is a first-generation American with deep family roots in healthcare. His father is a cardiologist that practiced for over 40 years, and his mother is a retired nurse administrator and former Quality Assurance Director for Community Hospital. His parent’s experience in medicine has given him a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities in the healthcare industry.
