State Line Abortion Access Partners - SLAAP

State Line Abortion Access Partners - SLAAP The mission of SLAAP is to promote and protect abortion access for individuals in Southwest Virginia and anyone who travels to the region for abortion care.

In post-Roe America, Southwest Virginia has become the closest point of abortion care for many Southeastern states. While abortion access currently remains stable in Virginia, Bristol VA and the surrounding region are deeply conservative; anti-abortion extremists routinely target the only abortion clinic currently located there. State lines now highlight the ongoing struggle for equal access to re

productive healthcare, and the importance of pursuing justice, equity, and the recognition of individual agency across the diverse landscapes of a nation. State Line Abortion Access Partners is a collective of local activists fighting to protect reproductive rights in Appalachia and beyond. We work to meet the needs of patients who seek abortion care in Southwest Virginia, overcome "period poverty" in our region, advocate for comprehensive reproductive health care education, and improve abortion access for all.

We wholeheartedly support healthy, well-informed pregnancy and birth. “Free” ultrasounds are not part of that process.

We wholeheartedly support healthy, well-informed pregnancy and birth. “Free” ultrasounds are not part of that process.

A crisis pregnancy center told a Texas woman that her pregnancy was intrauterine. Three days later, she had emergency surgery for an ectopic, or out-of-uterus, pregnancy.

Behind every program at SLAAP are volunteers who believe reproductive health care should be accessible, practical, and stigma-free.

They distribute emergency contraception, es**rt patients at clinics, stock community supply depots, and show up in a hundred small ways that make a real difference.

These are just a few of the people who make the work possible.

The Satanic Temple Tennessee has launched its Menstruatin' with Satan campaign! It will run from February 14, 2026 to March 14, 2026.

SLAAP is an amazing organization that gives menstrual products to schools and other communities in need. Their Period Positive project is helping to de-stigmatize the conversation around periods and help folks get much needed supplies.

Dilly's and the Boo-tique have partnered with us in the past to help take physical donations for our campaigns. Please stop in and shop these small local businesses!

Virginia voters will decide in November whether abortion access is protected in our state constitution — and a lot of people have questions about what that really means.

We’re hosting a community information session with Repro Rising Virginia to walk through what the amendment does, why it matters, and how people in our region can support it. No prior knowledge needed — just come listen, ask questions, and learn.

🗓 Tuesday, February 17 · 6:30 PM

We wish this story were rare. But it's all too common in our region. A young survivor was denied emergency contraception by a medical provider. One of our partners was able to get it to her in time.

Access to reproductive health care should never depend on whether a provider personally agrees with you. This is why we distribute free emergency contraception.

Change doesn’t always start in big cities or friendly legislatures.
Sometimes it starts in a border town in Tennessee with people who refuse to accept the way things are.

This new segment from Standing in the Gap follows Stephanie, one of our founders and the reality that even here — especially here — community care can move access and conversation forward.

We’re grateful this project is shining a light on something our neighbors live with every day. When someone can’t afford basic period supplies, they also lose control over bigger health decisions — and that’s where access to abortion care gets harder too.

Proud of our volunteers and partners who keep showing up across our region. Thanks Christina Smith Anderson for including us in Standing in the Gap: The Splintering of American Healthcare .

We’re honored to be featured in Standing in the Gap: The Splintering of American Healthcare, a new docu-series by Runaway Train Productions that looks at health care deserts and the people working to make sure their neighbors can access care.

The series highlights SLAAP’s period poverty work in Appalachia and the quiet, practical ways our community shows up—providing free menstrual supplies, building trust with schools and partners, and addressing a basic need that’s too often overlooked.

Watch the trailer below and keep an eye out for the full series. We’re grateful to be part of a project that centers dignity, care, and the real work happening in communities like ours.
