Formerly Margaret Mitchell Spay Neuter Clinic and now known as Bristol Humane Society! Our mission is to provide targeted, high-volume, reduced-cost spay and neuter services in an effort to reduce the dog and cat over-population problem in the Virginia counties of Buchanan, Dickenson, Lee, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington and Wise; the Cities of Bristol and Norton; and the Counties of Sullivan and Unicoi in Tennessee. Our vision is to end the need to euthanize healthy, adoptable dogs and cats by reducing the number of dogs and cats that enter the region's shelters. We strive to serve pets whose owners may not be able to afford spay/neuter services for their pets otherwise. Our Services:
Spay/Neuter ($80 for dogs, $75 for female cats, $60 for male cats)
Vaccinations ($15 each)
Microchipping ($20)
Heartworm Testing ($30)
Leukemia Testing ($25)

Flea/Tick Treatment ($20-$50))
Dewormer (price varies)
Umbilical Hernia ($15)
2nd, 3rd Trimester Pregnancies ($10)

Areas we serve
Our primary focus is on serving Buchanan, Dickenson, Lee, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington and Wise Counties; the Cities of Bristol and Norton in Virginia; and the Counties of Sullivan and Unicoi in Tennessee, however, animals are accepted from other counties as availability permits. TRANSPORTATION

Our transport van travels to the outer-lying communities within our region, meets with the area coordinators, loads the van with animals and transports them to our clinic for surgery. If you need transportation for you pet, please visit our website at www.bristolhumanesociety.org or phone the clinic at (276) 591 -5790 for the number of your local transportation coordinator. Why should I Spay or Neuter My Pet?

*Spaying and neutering helps dogs and cats live longer, healthier lives.
*Spaying and neutering can eliminate or reduce the incidence of a number of health problems that can be very difficult or expensive to treat.
*Spaying eliminates the possibility of uterine or ovarian cancer and greatly reduces the incidence of mammary (breast) cancer, particularly when your pet is spayed before her first heat cycle.
*Neutering eliminates testicular cancer and decreases the incidence of prostate disease.
*Spaying and neutering makes pets more affectionate companions.
*Neutering cats makes them less likely to spray and mark territory.
*Spaying a dog and cat eliminates her heat cycle. The heat cycle in dogs lasts about three weeks and occurs twice a year. A cat's heat cycle lasts for multiple days, two to three times a year. Females in heat can cry incessantly, show nervous behavior, and attract unwanted male animals. www.bristolhumanesociety.org

🚧 PARKING LOT UPDATE: PLEASE READ BEFORE YOUR VISIT! 🐾

We have a little unexpected bump in the road at Margaret Mitchell Spay/Neuter Clinic! An unexpected sinkhole in our parking lot means repairs will begin Monday, October 12, and may continue throughout the week.

We know getting your pets to their appointments takes time and effort under normal circumstances, so we appreciate your patience while we get this taken care of!

Here’s what you need to know:

🐾 Our back parking lot will be closed during construction.

🐾 ALL CLIENTS WILL ENTER THROUGH THE FRONT OF THE BUILDING (staff will be there to direct and assist you).

🐾 Spay/neuter clients: Please plan to use the overflow parking lot across Auction Drive if you are able and the front lot is full.

🐾 Wellness clients: If the front parking lot is full, please use the overflow parking lot across Auction Drive.

🐾 The overflow lot requires a walk across Auction Drive and across the bridge. All clients will enter through the front entrance. Please allow extra time to get yourself and your pet safely into the building.

❤️ PLEASE PLAN AHEAD! Parking and getting checked in may take longer than usual. We encourage everyone with an appointment to arrive with extra time to spare.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and kindness while our parking lot gets the repairs it needs. We know this is an inconvenience, and we appreciate you working with us to make this process as smooth as possible for everyone!

We’ll keep you updated as we learn more about the construction timeline.

🚨 KITTEN OWNERS, PLEASE READ 💥

We are seeing too many cases of feline panleukopenia in our community!

Also known as feline distemper, panleukopenia is a highly contagious virus that can make cats very sick and can be especially dangerous for kittens.

It is FREQUENTLY FATAL!

The good news is that vaccination can help prevent it.

The Feline Distemper Combo vaccine ( FVRCP ) protects cats against panleukopenia as well as other serious feline diseases. Kittens need a series of vaccines as they grow, so keeping up with each vaccine in the series is important.

Don't forget about your adult cats. Older unvaccinated cats may also become sick, and even indoor cats can be exposed to these contagious diseases.

Take a minute to check your cats' vaccine records. If your kitten hasn't finished their vaccine series or your adult cat isn't up to date, talk with your veterinarian or contact us..

Don't wait until your pets are sick to think about prevention.

A healthy pet is a happy pet, and that's how we want to help you keep them.

There are people who become famous. And then there are people who become part of the place they came from.

Dolly Parton was that kind of person. 💗🌟

She showed us that you can dream big and still remember where you came from. That success and kindness can live side by side. And that whatever you’ve been given—money, talent, opportunity, influence—you can use it to make life a little better for someone else.

She gave books to children. She gave hope to communities. She gave people reasons to smile.

And she reminded us that kindness doesn’t have to be complicated.

We may not have her voice, her rhinestones, or her hair… but we can do the kindness part. ❣

Here in Southwestern Virginia and East Tennessee, Dolly’s example inspires us to keep asking::

💖🐾What good can we do with what we’ve been given? 💖🐾

At Bristol Humane Society, that means making veterinary care more accessible, helping families before a problem becomes a crisis, and giving people a hand up without ever making them feel ashamed for needing one.

Because sometimes helping a pet stay healthy means helping a family stay together.

Thank you, Dolly🌸 , for showing us what it looks like to turn what we’ve been given into hope for someone else. 💗

We’ll keep doing the kindness part. ♥
