Hey howdy, Friends! Members of the Friends of the Brentwood Library gathered on Thursday and had a rousing good time with delicious southern fare from Pucketts and to enjoy the featured speaker, Mary Ellen Pethel. Pethel regaled the crowd with fun and stories and facts about the woman known as the one and only Minnie Pearl, aka Sarah Ophelia Colley.

Along with Pethel’s entertaining presentation, FOBL was proud to honor its 2026 Friend of the Year, Dottie Grief, who throughout her life and career has worked tirelessly to promote the strengths and virtues of a strong community library. In addition, the Friends honored board members who will be rolling off from their positions this year: Past President Cindy Franklin along with Peter Chan, Maxine Cleeton, Kate MacMichael, and Melissa Orum.

Finally, as is tradition during the May general meeting, President Tricia Allison officially passed the gavel to incoming president, Bridget von Weisenstein, who will serve in this capacity for the next two years.

Engraved legacy bricks offer a unique way to honor a loved one, memorialize a special life event, or to simply publicly acknowledge support for the Library.

The Friends of the Brentwood Library is therefore offering a limited opportunity to purchase legacy bricks that will be installed in the lovely reading terrace of the John P. Holt Brentwood Library.

The engraving on these bricks is guaranteed to last a lifetime, so acknowledgements of loved ones can be viewed for generations to come. Imagine the delight of a child finding his or her family name on a brick at the Library marking their birth, or in dedication to grandparents or other family members. Bricks can mark the occasion of a graduation or a wedding, or simply recognize a special friendship or love of reading. The possibilities are endless, but the result is the same: public acknowledgement of your support of our beloved library!

The Friends of the Brentwood Library has reserved approximately 25 bricks for recognition of long-serving library volunteers and Friends volunteers, so this leaves 75 bricks for purchase. In other words, this is a limited opportunity!

Proceeds from the sales of bricks directly benefit the Library.

Price: $100.00
Size: 4” x 8”
Engraving: Up to 3 lines; up to 20 characters each
