MEET LIVE BIRDS OF PREY FROM VINS on Tuesday, June 23, 6:30pm in the Main Reading Room at the Brooks Memorial Library!

What did 65 million years of evolution turn the dinosaurs into? Birds!

Celebrating “Unearth a Story,” the Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS) is excited to introduce you to some live birds of prey and learn all about their dinosaur ancestry together. We’ll explore the ways modern birds became masters of the air, and understand the immense timescale over which these dinosaur-descendants adapted!

Free and open to all ages. No registration is required.

May 8, 2026

Dear Friends of Brooks Library,

We cordially invite you to the Windham World Affairs Council Annual Meeting and Potluck. It will be held:

Friday, May 29

6:00-8:00 pm

Kiwanis Shelter, Living Memorial Park, Brattleboro

It has been a number of years since our last annual meeting, and there is no time like the present to hold our next one. We are living through a historical moment of great change, driven in no small by the national politics of the United States. Norms of international law and the liberal world order that have governed geopolitics since the end of the World War II are evolving, being reevaluated and sometimes discarded. What comes next will be up to all of us to help fashion on an individual, local, and global level.

It is a wonderful time to get together with others in our community who are committed to better understanding the world and our own role in it, both as part of a country with outsize global influence, and as a community whose members have strong links to global affairs.

The Annual Meeting is also an opportunity to get together and plan the future of events, panels, and conversations. Help us brainstorm what’s worked, where we need growth, and what we’d all like to see more of.

This event is a potluck! We’ll have the grill fired up with The Rev. Dr. Scott Couper at the helm, so bring your meats, veggies, and proteins for a lovely Vermont May day! Side dishes, desserts and drinks (either alcoholic or non-alcoholic) are also welcome.

Please RSVP in advance here: https://forms.gle/wskPxkLG58NqKVGS6

If your membership has lapsed, you can renew here.

We look forward to seeing you on May 29!

Sincerely,

Merrill Sovner
