Meet K9 Gus of the Thurston County Sheriff's Office, WA! 🐾

Gus is the department's newest K9, and he's trained to sniff out hidden electronics like USB drives, SD cards, air tags and tiny cameras. He recently found a camera under 4 feet of water. Gus and his handler, Detective Hannah Ritter, will help with search warrants in internet crime cases, and he's the only trained law enforcement K9 with electronics training between Seattle and Portland. He also roams the sheriff's office halls, offering comfort to people during tough investigations.

Remembering K9 Ernie of the Covington Police Department (KY). 🐾

Ernie served Covington for 8½ years alongside his handler, Specialist Michael Lusardi. He was shot twice in 2015 while apprehending a suspect, survived a 2018 crash when a suspected drunk driver hit his cruiser, and helped find lost children and seize hundreds of pounds of narcotics. He retired in October 2020 and passed away from cancer in January 2021. This month, the city opened a new dog park at Hands Pike Park in his honor.

K9 Memphis of the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office, ME, tracked a missing woman into the woods. 🐾

In June, a 75-year-old Etna woman with recent medical issues and confusion left her property and went missing. Memphis tracked her to a dense wooded area that would have been hard to search on foot, by helicopter, or by drone. Rescue crews and family brought her to safety, and she was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
