🚨💔 MY FRIEND MAJOR WAS HIT BY A CAR. NOW HE FACES EUTHANASIA FOR BITING SOMEONE WHO TRIED TO HELP HIM.

Hi friends, it's me, Fenix. 🐺❤️

I really, really need your help.

Major is a beautiful Belgian Malinois in Austin, Texas, with a dad who loves him very much.

Major was hit by a car. His dad ran to get his phone to call for help.

While he was gone, a kind woman stepped in to help.

But Major was badly hurt, frightened, and in immense pain.

When she tried to help him, he bit her.

She was seriously injured, and my heart goes out to her, too. 💔

But friends, Major was an injured dog reacting in terrible pain.

And now he faces EUTHANASIA.

After more than 500 days separated from his dad, confined in a shelter, his life is still hanging in the balance.

💔 CAN YOU IMAGINE?

Being hurt. Terrified. Not understanding what's happening. Reacting out of fear. And potentially losing your life because of it.

Human safety matters. Of course it does.

But surely every possible safe and compassionate alternative deserves to be considered.

🐾 PLEASE HELP SAVE MAJOR.

Advocates are asking Austin officials to explore a legal agreement that could return Major to his dad under appropriate safety conditions, and review how these life-or-death decisions are made.

He calls it “Pit Bull Carpool” 🚗🐾

Whenever Yves has free time, he picks up a shelter pit bull, rolls the windows down, plays some music and lets them just be dogs for a while. Before bringing them back, he films a short intro so people can see who they really are — not a number, not a label, but a goofy, loving dog who deserves a chance.

Sometimes all it takes is a car ride, a song and a little fresh air to help the right person fall in love ❤️

Open intake shelters are not the problem. When your municipal shelter is overflowing and euthanizing for space, that is a community failure, not a shelter failure. The shelter is doing exactly what it exists to do, which is accept animals when there is nowhere else for them to go. Blaming the shelter for being full is like blaming the emergency room for having sick patients.

The real problems run deeper: a lack of accessible veterinary care, unaffordable housing that forces people to surrender pets, insufficient community support for owners who are struggling, and living in a culture that expects immediate results and same day delivery of items we order. We seem to always look for a quick fix rather than address root causes.

Shipping dogs off to a "sanctuary" is a version of that quick fix, and as I wrote about this week, it is one of the most dangerous ones. If we want to actually help dogs, we have to be willing to look honestly at the systemic issues that put them in crisis in the first place, and invest in real solutions at the community level.

He didn’t collapse on duty.
He waited until he was home.
Even sick, K-9 Jonny refused to fall in front of his team.

Tonight, SPD K-9 Jonny is fighting.
Not a suspect.
Not a threat.
His own body.

Earlier this evening, Jonny suffered what appeared to be a seizure. He was off-duty. Safe at home.

His handler, Sgt. Kilgore, didn’t call for backup.
He became the backup.

Sgt. Kilgore carried him to SAVES in Fayetteville himself. No sirens. No lights. Just a handler and his partner.

Right now, Jonny is being evaluated. He’s still fighting.

Chief Edens said one thing that every handler understands:
"When your partner goes down, you don’t wait for permission to save him. You move."

Sgt. Kilgore is not leaving that vet tonight.
He’s sleeping on the floor if he has to.
Because that’s what handlers do.
We don’t leave our partners behind. Not in the field. Not in the hospital. Not ever.

K-9 Jonny. Senoia Police Department, GA. He served his city for years without asking for thanks.

Tonight he needs one thing from us:
Not prayers.
Not pity.

He needs us to say what Sgt. Kilgore is saying right now in that vet:
"Not yet, partner. Not yet."

Type "NOT YET" for Jonny.
Share this so Sgt. Kilgore knows he’s not sitting in that waiting room alone.

I know that the rising costs of gas and everyday expenses are a struggle for everybody right now and we can definitely relate! We work full-time jobs in addition to running the sanctuary and we are always looking for ways to cut back on unnecessary costs.
