Hot Chef Summer was a hit!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Future Chefs Summer Pop-Up this week! Our young people were on their A-game - firing food, taking orders, packaging meals, passing out samples, welcoming guests, and putting their skills, creativity, and confidence on full display. They were a well-oiled restaurant machine, and we couldn’t be more proud.

None of this would be possible without the Future Chefs community. You showed up and showed out! Thank you to everyone who stopped by, spread the word, placed an order, and cheered on our teens. Your support helps us continue creating meaningful, paid work experiences for Boston youth.

We’re already looking forward to next summer!

Our Summer Pop-Up is just around the corner! And running this three-day restaurant takes more than just cooking skills. To make this Pop-Up a hit, our teens are using key life skills that will also serve them long after the summer is over.

🍽 Brainstorming dish ideas and designing a cohesive menu SPARKS creativity and critical thinking

Our young chefs are serving up heat with a Pop-Up menu full of fresh, elevated, and healthier takes on summer favorites.

And this menu wasn’t created overnight. Over the last four weeks, our teens have been brainstorming, taste-testing dishes, and refining recipes - sometimes as many as 6 versions! The wait is over - the Summer Pop-Up menu is officially live, and so are pre-orders!

Our teens have been working hard brainstorming dishes, testing recipes, and refining the menu to deliver fresh, elevated summer favorites. Treat yourself August 11, 12, and 13 to crispy Pan Fried Dumplings, a crusty, tender Banh Mi, a sweet Banana Pudding Cinnamon Roll, and more – all designed and prepared by our young people.

It's Hot Chef Summer!

Inspired by Megan Thee Stallion's Hot Girl Summer, our teens are cooking up a Summer Pop-Up menu built on self-love, confidence, and being unapologetically YOU.

Expect fresh, colorful ingredients and elevated takes on summer classics, all designed, tested, and perfected by our young chefs. They're building skills and confidence one dish at a time (and having a blast while doing it!).

Treat yourself to lunch at the Summer Pop-Up - every dish is made and sold by our teens, and every purchase funds youth jobs to keep them building skills long after summer ends.

It's great to have friends in cool places!

On one of the hottest days this summer so far, JonnyPops showed up with a stash of ice pops for our teens at Future Chefs! JonnyPops has kindness in their mission, and it really shows. And their pops, "stacked with flavor," were a huge hit. Everyone was all smiles (and a little sticky) as they took a break from the kitchen to cool off. Thank you, JonnyPops, for the sweet surprise and for being a true friend to our program!

Summer is officially underway at Future Chefs!

Last week marked our first week of summer programming, and the building was buzzing with 44 youth ready to get to work. Four of our returning young people have also stepped up into the role of Youth Lead this summer, taking on greater responsibility and continuing to build their leadership.

This crew has a lot ahead of them. They'll be preparing daily lunches for the youth program at Trinity Church, and designing, planning, and opening their very own pop-up. That's real kitchen skills, real teamwork, and real ownership.

And yes, there's plenty of fun mixed in too -- swipe to see the epic water balloon battle from last Thursday's field day. These teens are working hard and they deserve to enjoy the summer while they do it.

Flatbreads, bold flavors, and a lot of great questions!

During April school vacation, Tatte Chefs Can, Robert, and Daniel visited Future Chefs, and the young people were all in. They experimented, took risks with new ingredients, and really leaned into the process of making flatbreads.

But what stood out most? The conversation! The chefs answered questions about flavor, product development, and the real paths they took to get where they are. Honest, thoughtful, and exactly the kind of insight that sticks.
