AAZK ZNE in partnership with the ZNE Enrichment Committee is raising funds to purchase a toy for Seymour the Jaguar at Stone Zoo. Seymour has chosen an oblong ball toy, as he used to have one that he loved, but he loved it so much he wore his old one out! Any funds raised over the cost of the toy for Seymour will go toward supporting AAZK ZNE's conservation initiatives, professional development, and general chapter operation costs. T-shirts will be available for purchase from 2/22 - 3/7. They will be available for pick-up from Franklin Park Zoo or Stone Zoo once the order has been received.

Josh is a member of our animal care team working in Birds World, so it's not a surprise that a bird would be his favorite animal! "African pygmy falcons are my favorite. They've got a raptor's ferocity, precision, and elegance — squished into a bird that looks like a cotton ball!"

Every day our dedicated animal care teams are working in all weather conditions, feeding and training our animals and keeping their habitats clean. They are the backbone of Franklin Park Zoo. For National Zoo Keeper Week, we're going to introduce a few of these dedicated keepers — they have amazing experiences to share!

First up is Ashley, a Senior Keeper who works in the Tropical Forest building and the acting president of the zoo’s American Association of Zoo Keepers chapter. We asked her how she got started in this career: "I got my start in zoos as a small kid, when my parents first sent me to Zoo Camp at my local zoo. From there, I started volunteering as a teenager and eventually got my start in the education department where I worked part time through school and several internships. My first full time position was working with primates and I knew I found my calling!"
