GSERA would like to wish everyone attending the Seattle residency this weekend all the best! 🌟 We hope that you have a meaningful experience filled with growth, connection, and the kind of learning that stays with you long after the weekend is over.

Residencies are such a special part of this journey. It is a rare chance to step away from the everyday, be present with your colleagues and faculty, and be reminded that you are not on this path alone. Soak it all in. πŸ’™

πŸ“Š RECAP: Seeing the Story: Data Visualization for Practitioner-Scholars

A huge thank you to Dr. Mike Dean and Dr. Kari Thierer for an incredible session on making data meaningful last week! Whether you're working with qualitative themes or quantitative trends, here's what we took away: πŸ‘‡

✨ 1. Visualization is an act of interpretation, not just presentation. Every visual choice communicates meaning and reflects your positionality as a researcher.
πŸ“‚ 2. Match your visual to your data structure. Codes and themes, participant voice, relationships, and process each call for different visual forms (e.g. thematic maps, quote matrices, AR cycle diagrams, and more).
πŸ“ˆ 3. Know your chart type and what it's built for. Bar charts compare categories, line charts show trends, scatter charts reveal relationships, and histograms show distributions. The right type tells the right story.
❓ 4. Ask three questions before visualizing anything. What relationship am I trying to show? Who is my audience? Does this visual add interpretive value beyond what my text already says?
🎯 5. Prioritize clarity over cleverness. Good visualization, whether qual or quant, means interpretive integrity, consistency, accessibility, and transparency in how findings are presented.

Thank you Dr. Dean and Dr. Thierer for helping us see our data in a whole new way! πŸ™Œ
