An amazing find by Joe Whritenour! Our Labor Day Parade is 135 years old, and this piece of history is truly something special.

Here’s to 135 years of community, tradition, and coming together on Main Street. 🇺🇸

BOONTON, N. J. FRIDAY, AUGUST 28, 1925
LISTEN, BOONTON!
The Annual Firemen’s Frolic will take place as usual on Labor Day, Monday, September 7th. The festivities will start at 10 A. M. with a gala parade. In the line of march will be hale and hearty smoke-eaters from far and near, in addition to Boonton’s own hose handlers. You must not fail to see the parade, even if you have to leave the breakfast dishes.
In the afternoon the scene of activity will be shifted to the ball grounds and points adjacent. A gaily diversified program has been arranged that is calculated to give ecstatic enjoyment to everyone from the toddling infant to the sportive octogenarian. There will be a Midway that will rival the great seaside resorts, with unique attractions on every hand. Two husky teams of horsehide swatters will provide excitement in the form of a baseball game and the visiting water heavers will do their stuff in hose coupling contests for which a beautiful prize will be awarded the winner.
The fun will be fast and furious and you simply must come over with all your holiday guests. There will be St. Mary’s band of forty pieces from Plainfield to fill the air with inspiring melody; hot dogs for the famished, cool liquids for the parched and gas balloons for the kids.
Then in the evening will be the piece de resistance—a pyrotechnic display to brighten the sky for miles around while the band fills the air with martial melody and jazz.
Come out and help to swell the crowd. Here’s your opportunity to show what you think of the splendid fire laddies who are always ready to serve you in time of need.
So don’t forget that you have a date for all day on Monday, September 7th, morning, afternoon and evening.
And, by the way, here’s a chance for all you staunch Boontonians to “kick in” with a few shekels to help reduce expenses. Send in your donations to the finance committee, John McCormick, Harry Higgins and Ed. Worman—and please make it snappy.
We thank you.

Thursday got cancelled, so tonight is opening night for the Boonton Fire Department's Labor Day Carnival.

The midway at the Boonton High School field on Lathrop Ave runs 6 to 11 tonight, the 135th anniversary parade steps off down Main Street at 1:30 Saturday, and the fireworks close it out Sunday night. Admission is free and the money goes right back to the all volunteer department.

Hard to beat as the last big weekend of summer in Morris County.

What is your first stop, the zeppole tent or the drop tower?

Read more in the comments.

Update: Thursday and Friday are cancelled as well
