We are getting a lot of messages about the Perseid Meteor shower which is best viewed overnight tonight (8/12-8/13) because there will be no moon. NASA suggests heading to any dark location with a wide view of the sky. Lie down or use a chair and just look up and enjoy! There is no formal event scheduled at Sheep Hill and the Observatory itself will not be open, as a telescope is not useful for getting the wide angle views necessary to see meteors. That said, the Observatory grounds are public property and a few SHAA members and other folks will be there watching informally overnight. If you choose to go to Sheep Hill, be extra careful while driving or walking on the unpaved driveway, which eroded a bit in recent storms!
