“While recent rains have helped improve several drought indicators, a long-term hydrologic drought — a prolonged shortage of water in lakes, rivers, groundwater, and wetlands — continues to affect the region. The latest assessment found enough improvement to support small reductions in drought conditions across parts of South Florida.”

Hurricane Season officially begins today, June 1st. Although it’s expected to be a “weaker” season, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t expect any storms.

NOAA predicts a total of eight to 14 named storms during the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season. Their potential names have already been predetermined.

“Over half of Florida is in an "extreme drought," as classified by the U.S. Drought Monitor, and about 22% of the state is in an "exceptional drought," the system's highest level.”

Florida is experiencing one of its worst droughts in decades, but Gov. Ron DeSantis says there could be a silver lining: a less active hurricane season. Does dry weather correlate with fewer hurricanes? PolitiFact says not typically.

Doable yes, but as I’ve said many times, waiting for a natural disaster to correct another one isn’t exactly a great scenario to be in — particularly where water is concerned.

Getting 2 feet of rain in three months is totally doable in Florida, but we may need a tropical storm to get there. See link below ⬇️

A below-average hurricane season is predicted, with the transition to El Niño patterns as part of the reason. Of course, the we’ve seen predictions for overly-active seasons the last few years that ended up on the quieter side, relatively speaking. Focus should remain on being prepared regardless.

The upcoming season could be much different than others over the past decade if early forecasts come to pass.

A new Drought Monitor came out Thursday morning, and it shows the drought getting worse across the state.

The latest drought update is in. Despite a few days of rain, much of the state remains in severe status. Water levels have also not significantly improved. We will continue providing updates over the coming weeks. Conserve your water!
