Our breath is the link between the mind and the body, and breathing is one of the few bodily functions that can be controlled both voluntarily and involuntarily.

In other words, we can choose to control it consciously when we want to, and it happens unconsciously when we don't.

Our breathing pattern reflects all of our emotional shifts. We breathe faster when we are excited. We sigh when we're depressed. Our breathing is deep and regular when we're relaxed.

Changing our breathing method consciously can change our state of mind, just as changing our mind changes our breathing pattern.

In other words, we can learn to control our minds by using proper breathing techniques.

To practice Ho'opnopono meditation:

Call to mind a relationship where you would like to bring forgiveness and healing, with a deeper connection of ease between you. (It could be with yourself.)

First, take a few moments to center; bring the breath to your heart; imagine a golden light infusing your heart with compassion, gratitude, and love – for yourself and for all the wonders in your life.

Now picture the person in front of you and imagine this golden light overflowing and pouring out to them as you begin the mantra, repeating over and over, from your heart to theirs:

I’m sorry.

Please forgive me.

Thank you.

I love you.

People who struggle with forgiveness, both for themselves and for others, frequently find solace in a deeply healing age-old Hawai'ian practice.

It's called "Ho'oponopono" and it's a lovely Hawaiian prayer for forgiveness.

This ancient Hawaiian practice of forgiveness serves as a tool for self-love and balance restoration and a communication concept for reconciliation.

In practice, it functions as a kind of self-love mantra. Surprisingly, it's also extremely simple to actualize.

The Hawaiian word ho'oponopono means "to bring things back into balance" or "to make things right." It's a meditative concept.

Repeating this prayer over and over is an effective way to rid the body of guilt, shame, haunting memories, ill will, or negative feelings that keep the mind focused on negative thoughts.

Acceptance isn't synonymous with resignation. It's all about bravery.

It's about having the courage to face a problem head-on and say, "Yes, I have this problem."

We must accept that we have a problem, just as an addict must first recognize a problem before doing anything about it.

Acceptance is a very active process; it is not a passive submission but rather an act of acknowledgment that things are the way they are

Genuine acceptance does not preclude us from changing the world or the situation, but it implies that unless we accept things as they are, we will try to force them to be otherwise, which can be extremely difficult.

The strange thing about acceptance is that by letting go of all the energy we used to lie to or fight with ourselves, the situation can sometimes change on its own.

Where did your mind go the last time you went for a solo walk — in the city, your neighborhood, the countryside, or a remote hiking trail?

Did you make a phone call or text someone? Were you listening to music or a podcast?

Maybe you were preoccupied with something else. It's almost second nature for our attention to be elsewhere when we're outside.

Walking meditation aims to bring the body and mind into harmony while we're out and about.

If you don't want to sit and close your eyes to meditate, this is a great alternative that still trains your mind to be aware and present.

Despite its simplicity, deep belly breathing can be profound. We've always known the importance of a balanced breath—there's a reason we're told to "take deep breaths" when we're feeling overwhelmed or stressed out, and nearly every yoga practice recognizes the importance of it.

Breathwork, on the other hand, has evolved into much more than a simple inhale-exhale routine. It is quickly becoming a go-to method for clearing negative thoughts and balancing energy.

Rather than reaching into the mind, breathwork can help you access what you're feeling energetically and emotionally in your body.

Try breathwork today and discover a fundamental element in meditation.

Meditation is something that anyone can do. It doesn't cost a lot of money or require any special equipment. All you need is you!

A simple definition of meditation from Headspace:

Meditation isn’t about becoming a different person, a new person, or even a better person.

Its about training in awareness and getting a healthy sense of perspective.

You're not trying to turn off your thoughts or feelings.

You’re learning to observe them without judgment and eventually, you may start to better understand them as well.

Meditate and find your piece of mindfulness.

In today's troubled world, we have lost the ability to tune in to our own intrinsic sense of joy and peace because our happiness and contentment are linked to so many external factors.

We also have to contend with our own inner thoughts.

Most of us have been through painful or traumatic events that have left us with lasting emotional scars. So, how do we re-establish contact with our joyous inner nature?

It's important to appreciate the little things—the tiniest victories, accomplishments, and progress.
Simply enjoy yourself and discover things that make you happy.

That is something that isn't done nearly enough. 'What did I do well today?' write in your journal. So you didn't go for your daily walk today, but you did wake up with a glass of water in your hand. You did an excellent job!

So, what exactly are you waiting for? Get out of bed and do something fun! How are you going to create a happy moment for yourself?

2. Exercise - nothing beats a good workout for relieving stress
3. Meditate - find a quiet place and clear your mind for five minutes each day
4. Laugh out loud! Watch something funny or share an inside joke with someone you love
