Rotary Club of Blytheville recently received several awards at the 6150 District Conference. President Randy Lemmons earned a District Governor Citation as a Best President for 2026. The Blytheville club was given the Membership Momentum Award as we added a companion club and additional members to the noon club. Sally Cooke was awarded the Rotary Public Image Excellence Award for her use of social media to promote Rotary. There is great work going on in Blytheville!

What a treat to hear from members of the O.C. Shivers Girls and Junior Achievers Boys Club today! The group which was organized in 1944 has been a staple in Blytheville, teaching and encouraging kids. With a focus on community service and how to present yourself well, students have historically learned art, music, and poetry. Recently that has expanded to include science, technology and math. President of the club Dorothy Erby and Dr. Anes Abraham provided information on the history and upcoming competitions for the group. Rotary wishes them the best as they travel to Little Rock this weekend and later to Chicago for nationals!

Rotary had a great End of Year Celebration Banquet with a picnic style barbecue dinner and fellowship. We recognized the 2026 Firefighter of the Year, Brad Burfeind, for his service. We also introduced two new Paul Harris Fellows, Amy Brothers Riston and LaRay White, as Rotarians who give of their time, talents, and money to transform our community. The Paul Harris Fellow is the highest honor given in Rotary and recognizes outstanding dedication and generosity. Congratulations to all who were honored.

Rotarians had the opportunity to hear from the Miss NEA/Miss Lights of the Delta/Miss Steel Capital/Miss River Delta queens. They shared their talents, explained their initiatives, and answered questions. We have a great pageant system here and these girls get great preparation by coming to civic clubs like Rotary. Thanks to Rotarians Christy Denton Morse and Cody Perrin who support this process!

Rotarians are honored to present a $1000 scholarship to Abigail Payne from Armorel High School. Tracey Ritchey explained how the Rotary Scholarship focuses on Service Above Self and asks students to describe how they have volunteered, share what they have learned from serving, and explain how they intend to continue to serve in college and beyond. Abigails academic excellence and passion for service were evident in her essay, academic records, and letters of reference. Congratulations Abigail! We wish you the best as you pursue your degree.

Billie Bowman, Samantha Townson, and Randy Newman from the Mississippi County Library System presented the summer program to Rotarians. There are many educational and entertaining activities happening at branches throughout the county as they seek to keep kids engaged with reading and exploring the resources offered. MCLS has become a hub for families with offerings for toddlers to teens during the summer in addition to the normal library services. Thank you to the law enforcement agencies, partners, and residents who participated in Arkansas Drug Take Back Day. Because of you, 50,240 lbs and 367 tons of unused medications were safely removed from circulation. Every pill returned is one less risk in someone’s home. Together, we are building a safer, stronger Arkansas.
