Traprock Ridge Land Conservancy Traprock Ridge Land Conservancy preserves open space in Bloomfield, East Granby, West Hartford, and Windsor, Connecticut.

The East Granby Land Trust (EGLT) is a private, non-governmental, non-profit organization incorporated in 1974 for the purpose of conserving the natural resources and unique features of East Granby . EGLT currently owns land parcels comprising over 264 acres that are open to the public for passive recreational activity including hiking, photography and nature study. We depend solely on members and volunteers from the community for support. In March 2023 we entered into an agreement to form the Traprock Ridge Land Conservancy by merging with West Hartford Land Trust and Wintonbury Land Trust (more to follow). Paula Jones and Kevin Gough, hike leaders of the UConn Adult Learning Program (ALP), represented Traprock Ridge Land Conservancy at the Seabury Trails 20th anniversary celebration on October 8.

Current Trails Committee members shown in the photograph include Nancy Kline, Kevin Gough, Paula Jones, Jim Trail, Amy Patterson, and Ian Clark. Amy Patterson, CLCC Executive Director, was one of the speakers.

The ALP fall hikes will be on October 23 (Still Brook Park, Feeding Hills, MA), November 6 (Hill-Stead Trails, Farmington), and November 20 (Shenipsit Lake Reservoir, Tolland). Visit alp.UConn.edu to find out more and to register.

Presentation on Thursday night by Ben Goldfarb, award-winning environmental journalist and author, to discuss his acclaimed book, Crossings: How Road Ecology Is Shaping the Future of Our Planet.

Roads may be part of the background of our everyday lives, but for wildlife they can mean deadly barriers, disrupted migrations, lost habitat, and constant noise. Ben will take us into the surprising world of road ecology—and introduce us to the innovative ways conservationists are building a safer world for wildlife, from wildlife crossings to migration corridors.

Our friends at the East Granby Public Library have just posted a new story along the short trail at the Ian Clark Preserve on Kimberly Road in East Granby. Earlier this month, volunteers cleared invasives and cleaned up the trail, leaving it in great condition. We hope you can come out and enjoy this new book while experiencing fall's beauty. The story is expected to remain in place through December.

Come meet Traprock Ridge Land Conservancy board members and volunteers at our booths on Saturday, Sept 19 and learn more about our conservation efforts while enjoying two local events.

From 10 am to noon, we'll be at the 10th Annual Bat Appreciation Day at Old New-Gate Prison and Copper Mine in East Granby. The event includes exhibits, presentations, live bats, bat crafts, story time, historical tales, the unique opportunity to sneak a peek at the “bat cave.”

Then, from 3 to 7 pm, join us on the Bloomfield Town Green for the Bloomfield Food Truck Festival featuring delicious food, unique retail offerings, and live music for an unforgettable experience.

We hope you can join us on Saturday at 9:30 am for this family-friendly hike.

Please note that these trails include crossing a floating bridge over the brook and that our route includes a short walk on a local road that has relatively limited car traffic. It's advisable to bring water and bug spray.

There is parking on the strip of vacant land between 236 and 240 Tunxis Ave. You can pull in and either park perpendicular to the chain link fence on your left or right.
