Steven's Animal Sanctuary Steven's Animal Sanctuary was founded by Dr Heather Stewart, Laura Thompson & Holly Moffatt in 2017, and have helped hundreds of animals in need. ❤️‍🩹

OUR MISSION: Is to provide a loving and safe retirement home for displaced animals that come to us for many reasons including medical issues or age. We focus on senior and special needs farm animals, as well as a group of senior or handicapped dogs and cats. We create a family home environment for these animals to provide them with a better quality of life throughout the remainder of their days. U

nder the watchful eye of co-founding veterinarian Dr. Heather and co-founder Laura, Steven's Animal Sanctuary is dedicated to providing the medical and emotional needs for a peaceful retirement to end of life. We use both western and eastern medicine including but not limited to acupuncture, chiropractic adjustments, massage, herbal supplements, pain medication, and physical rehabilitation. Just think of us as an assisted living home for the furries!

It’s been a beautiful and peaceful Mother’s Day weekend here at the sanctuary. We decided to let the herd go out on the other pasture and give the old one a rest. It was a good time to introduce the newest member, Ramona. She is a 29 year old Black Forest mare belonging to a long-time friend, and when she needed a new place to live, it just made sense that she come here. 🙂 What we didn’t expect, is that Misty would bond instantly with her, when she hadn’t bonded to anyone in the 7 months that she’s been here. So, Ramona and Misty are now out with the herd and they’re all enjoying the sunshine and pasture grass.
We hope you have all enjoyed your Mother’s Day weekends, whether with your actual mothers or children, or just thinking about them❣️

Back before Christmas, we met little Frankie when he stayed here as a sick puppy that had been rescued by PACK, a Tacoma-based non-profit that focuses on promoting animal welfare by funding veterinary care, food and supplies for pets in need - specifically for seniors, low-income households, and the unhoused. Frankie went through their system and had some neurological issues. He was such a sweet little guy, and he went through their program of fosters and initial vet care, including a consult with a neurologist. He has some sort of caudal fossa disease, mostly cerebellum, with balance and coordination issues. Most likely born with it, since it hasn’t resolved or worsened with time. He likely has a malformation of that part of his brain, a type of cerebellar hypoplasia.
In any case, Frankie has now joined our merry band of special needs critters, and the rest of the crew seems happy to have him. He is a super happy little guy and he’s able to eat and drink and get around well, he just falls over or circles sometimes. He quickly became Soleil’s best friend. He is 7 months old to her 9 months, and 10lb to her 14lb or so, and with her 3 legs and his coordination issues, they are a pretty perfect play match. 🙂
We look forward to many years to come with these 2 special souls! Welcome, little Frankie! And thanks to PACK for trusting us to care for this little guy. He is loved!
