🍎 PTO in Action: SyllaSense Books 📚

Recently our PTO funded a mini grant for the purchase of six SyllaSense Book Sets for the amount of $1,444.98.

This grant now provides a resource for small groups in LAP to have a new set of decodable books from SyllaSense which allows each student in a group to have a book in their hands. These decodable books are designed for students to practice new phonics skills while building on previously taught skills in text format.

The sequential nature of the texts, along with their high level of engagement, helps students to build confidence while developing the joy of reading. These books will be used in small pullout groups during WIN. Lessons for each book are provided online by the company, so these are intended to be used by teachers and paras for both instruction and independent practice during LAP groups. These books focus on phonics - pre-reading skills, also called foundational skills in Common Core Standards. Primary use will be with Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade LAP groups.

Staff are all aboard the Food Train today as we celebrate the last day of Staff Appreciation Week! PTO dads are outside grilling burgers, hot dogs and pulled pork while delectable sides await inside including pasta salads, fruit, chips and sweet desserts. Thank you parents and PTO members for helping us give back to our incredible staff we are fortunate to have at Black Diamond Elementary! 🦊 ✏️

We operate our Concessions Fridays in rain or sunny weather, but snow is an entirely different thing 😅❄️ Today we’ll be keeping warm and dry this Friday at home so we look forward to seeing you next week in the pick-up line!

It’s finally *Friday* which means two things - your kiddos are released a little bit earlier AND you can grab yourself a pick me-up in the parent pick-up line before the bell rings! Since we are now offering a variety of concessions, we wanted to share with you items available for purchase every Friday starting 30 minutes before the bell rings.

Congratulations to Sunrise Elementary!!

The school with the most volunteers who show up to our volunteer all-call meeting tonight at St. Elizabeth Hospital in the Rainier Room at 6:00 PM will get their choice of doughnuts or pizza for that school's staff!

Grab yourself a pick-me up in the pick-up line before the school bell rings at 2:15 today. We’ll be walking from car to car selling Redbull or Alani Energy Drinks for $5 starting at 1:30 until 2:10. Credit card payments are accepted & encouraged but we also have the ability to break change if you want to pay in cash 🩷 Proceeds from the sales of these drinks goes towards activities at the school such as Mini Grants, Scholarships, Backpack Buddy Program and so much more more! ✨
