Membership Drive Cookie Contest Update!

Classes are making strong progress this week! We have a few classes who've officially crossed over the 50% marker! Keep up the great momentum!

After the membership cookie drive contest wraps up, you'll receive your membership cards for 15% off concessions and PTO event merchandise (think glow dance purchases) the following week!

Reminder:
- Memberships cost $20 for the year and one purchase applies for all students within that family
- Parents aren't the only ones who can contribute - if there are any caretakers who'd like to buy it for their family's student you are able to do that! Just put the student(s) name and their teachers (if known) in the form.
- Scholarships are available for a free membership if this cost is a concern. Scholarships can be privately submitted on the form and contribute towards your student(s) classroom's progress!
- Lastly, kindergarten parents please feel free to fill out the form with your student's name and put 'Kinder TBD' under the teacher field - we'll work with the office on getting their assigned teacher's name figured out before the fundraiser ends.

Yesterday we kicked off the first day of our PTO Membership Contest as you may have seen in your child's red folders. Now through September 11th, we'll be looking to raise funding and getting more parents to be subscribed for our monthly newsletter by hosting this drive.

Classrooms with a 50% of parents/caregivers that have opted in for the PTO, will receive a cookie party! So far no classrooms have achieved this goal, but some rooms are making good progress.

To join the PTO as a paid member, cost is $20 a year - in exchange there are NO OTHER OBLIGATIONS to volunteer and communications will be primarily through the FB group. Once a month you'll receive an e-newsletter explaining what's going on, fundraising progress, volunteer opportunities before they're posted and more. We also have a scholarship membership for free that is available - you still need to sign up and select that as an option. Scholarship sign-ups also count toward the classroom goal for the cookie party. One family membership annually covers ALL your students at Black Diamond Elementary! 🙂

Lastly, all signed up PTO members will receive a membership card that will give you 15% off PTO purchases - concessions on Friday's in the pick up line or 15% off merchandise sold at the Costume Glow Dance.

🍎 PTO in Action: SyllaSense Books 📚

Recently our PTO funded a mini grant for the purchase of six SyllaSense Book Sets for the amount of $1,444.98.

This grant now provides a resource for small groups in LAP to have a new set of decodable books from SyllaSense which allows each student in a group to have a book in their hands. These decodable books are designed for students to practice new phonics skills while building on previously taught skills in text format.

The sequential nature of the texts, along with their high level of engagement, helps students to build confidence while developing the joy of reading. These books will be used in small pullout groups during WIN. Lessons for each book are provided online by the company, so these are intended to be used by teachers and paras for both instruction and independent practice during LAP groups. These books focus on phonics - pre-reading skills, also called foundational skills in Common Core Standards. Primary use will be with Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade LAP groups.

Staff are all aboard the Food Train today as we celebrate the last day of Staff Appreciation Week! PTO dads are outside grilling burgers, hot dogs and pulled pork while delectable sides await inside including pasta salads, fruit, chips and sweet desserts. Thank you parents and PTO members for helping us give back to our incredible staff we are fortunate to have at Black Diamond Elementary! 🦊 ✏️
