Since 2001, more than 140,000 veterans have died by su***de. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
Behind every number is a life.
A family.
A story.
A sacrifice.
Too many were suffering in silence.
Too many families were left carrying that silence alone.
As Memorial Day approaches, we remember every life, every sacrifice, and every legacy that should never be forgotten.
πŸ’š Their service mattered.
πŸ’š Their lives mattered.
πŸ’š Their legacy lives on.

We’re honored to be part of this year’s Community Mental Health Awareness Day! πŸ’š

Stop by The Jesse Klump Memorial Fund table to learn more about su***de prevention, mental health awareness, and the resources available in our community. Together, we can help break the stigma, start important conversations, and remind others that they are never alone.

Join us for an afternoon of food, music, games, prizes, and community connection while supporting mental wellness for all. We look forward to seeing everyone there! πŸ’œ

Join us for an afternoon of connection, conversation, and community support as the G.R.I.T. Mentoring Program partners with Somerset County Local Management Board and Learning Support for a Community Mental Health Awareness Day at Washington High School & Academy on Tuesday, June 2, at 3:00 PM.

This event is more than just food, games, live music with a DJ, and door prizes. It’s about creating a safe space for meaningful conversations, raising awareness, and connecting our youth, families, and community with valuable mental health resources and support services.

Mental wellness matters, and together we can help break the stigma, promote open dialogue, and remind each other that no one has to navigate life’s challenges alone.

Come out, have fun, build community, and be part of the conversation. πŸ’™

A Virginia Beach family is turning grief into action, advocating for mental health awareness in memory of their daughter, Alexa, who died by su***de at 26 after battling mental illness and bipolar disorder.

Mom, Susannah Uroskie describes Alexa as someone who brought joy to everyone around her. "Alexa was incredible. She was sweet, kind, caring, [and] funny. She had an infectious laugh. Everybody felt funny around Alexa because she just laughed at everybody's jokes, but they were sincere laughs," Uroskie said.

Talking about Alexa β€” the car rides to dance class, enjoying the beach, and time spent with her 3 younger brothers β€” keeps her memory alive. Throughout May, Sentara Leigh Hospital will be illuminated green in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month. Alexa's father, a surgeon at the hospital, advocated for the lighting β€” and for "kindness rocks" placed in the campus healing garden. Both are a tribute to Alexa and everyone still fighting.

"She is the reason. I didn't think after she died that I would be able to continue doing this [work] because I'd lost hope but yeah […] I feel connected with her β€” all the time, all the time," Uroskie said.

Masking of depression is something, I, Kim Klump, have been wanting to learn more about since my son, Jesse, was so good at it. This is the first thing I have seen talking about it.
