Food drives are a simple way to make a big impact — especially when a group gets involved.

When coworkers, classmates, church members, neighbors, or friends come together around a shared goal, a few donated items can quickly turn into boxes of food for neighbors facing hunger.

Group food drives also make giving back more fun. Set a goal, create teams, add a little friendly competition, and see how much your group can collect together.

Every donated item helps us provide food through our network of community partners across central Alabama.

Ever wonder what happens after you donate food to the Community Food Bank?

Your donation starts moving immediately.

Food donated by individuals, businesses, and community groups is weighed. Then, volunteers inspect and sort the items into categories and pack them into boxes so they’re ready for distribution.

From there, the food moves through our network of 300+ distribution partners across central Alabama. These partners know their communities best and help get food onto the tables of our neighbors facing hunger.

From the moment you drop off a donation to the moment it reaches a neighbor, every step is focused on one goal: getting food where it’s needed as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Better Together in action.

This week, more than 120 people from across our distribution partner network came together for our Partner Engagement Conference — a time to share ideas, learn from one another, discuss what’s working in our communities, and build stronger connections across central Alabama.

Our partners know their communities best, and bringing them together creates opportunities to learn from each other and strengthen the way we serve neighbors facing hunger.

We are grateful for every agency leader, pantry staff member, volunteer, and partner who joined us. Our network is stronger when we work together, and together, we are moving forward to help ensure our neighbors have access to the food they need.

Volunteers are at the heart of our mission.

Through June 2026, 5,125 volunteers had already given 10,184 hours of their time to help fight hunger across central Alabama. From packing food boxes and sorting donations to supporting special projects, their work helps us serve more neighbors every day.

Now, in our new warehouse, volunteers have even more ways to make an impact through opportunities in our Clean Room, Community Garden, and expanded volunteer space.

Our first volunteer group in the new facility, Regions Bank, helped us start this chapter strong — with 25 team members packing 493 boxes in just two hours.

As we grow into our new home, one thing remains the same: volunteers are essential to providing food and hope to neighbors facing hunger.
