Big Rapids Wesley House

Big Rapids Wesley House Wesley House is a Christian community rooted in the radical love of Christ that is for all. We are open to believers and non-believers alike.

Who ever you are, where ever you've been, you can belong and be celebrated here as you become whoever you are made to be. Wesley House meets each week at 6:00 PM on Thursdays at the Wesley House, located just behind the Science Building at 628 S Warren Ave. Our meetings will begin with a free, home-cooked meal and will continue with an optional discussion about issues relevant to college students

and based on the Bible. By joining our organization, you will be able to attend a variety of events for movie nights to weekend-long retreats and dozens of community service events. Finally, you will be able to join us on a mission trip to serve another part of the United States. There are no attendance requirements, but I hope to see you each week around the dinner table!

What a wild week that was! It all started last Tuesday when during “free lunch Tuesday” we also assembled 200 goody bags for finals week! A huge shout out to every group, church, and family that donated to this project. It was so many bags we ran into transport challenges.

Today we came back to the office to find 6 calls for food support on our voicemail. (DHS still has us listed as the student food pantry event though the big pantry lives at Ferris’ student union now- yes, I’ve corrected them. Yes, I called again today)

But of that 6-

1 stopped by this afternoon to grab a few things
2 are coming by for lunch and a quick stock up tomorrow
2 are checking out the on campus pantry and calling me back if they still need stuff
1 didn’t pick up my call and had a full voice mail- so that’s about all I can do for them. Maybe they’ll call back back.

Needless to say, in these trying times we are so thankful for our network of support. We are thankful for everyone who keeps Wesley on the map, who stocks “Grandma’s cupboard” with things students need and want, and who remembers these kids who are navigating the transition to adulthood often with very little support. Thanks for helping us respond to needs in our community.

It’s pencil delivery day!! A huge shout out to the churches who donated pencils - Big Rapids First United Methodist Church, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Big Rapids, the United Church in BR, Paris UMC, & 3rd Ave UMC. We managed to do pencil bouquets for every elementary class in Big Rapids Public School (including special ed and specials) and the middle school! (unpictured: the middle school drop off, they got 50 bouquets and their office was pandemonium)

Thank you for helping us thank and support classrooms, teachers, and students in our community!
