Enumerating our thanks has a way of planting gratitude into us, which has the side benefit of joy. I saw this in a dragonfly 😜 and in myself a few weeks ago when our daughter broke and fractured her ulna and radius.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

Maybe you've felt like a pig before. I have, more times than I'd like to confess.

So you might like to read about how God sees you...and me.

Refreshing our pictures of God.

I'm sure some of you will think that a fairytale is the last thing you need to be reading right now. There are so many serious topics to be pondered and taken to heart in this season of the world's history.

Or...maybe not. Maybe a fairytale is exactly what we need to be reading. A story about the world through the lens of a children's adventure. A story that will mirror so much of what is going on in our world today from a completely different angle, with the hope of light etched throughout as a theme we need to live right now, as indeed, the shadows seem to be deepening...

We were pretty spoiled to celebrate our long-delayed 20th anniversary in Mexico recently. We were in total relax mode, and had no intention of making a video review for paraplegics. On our last day there, Sarah encouraged me to get some last-minute footage to throw something together.

If you haven't read Sarah's written reflection on the trip on her Substack, I recommend you check out her recent post on this page.

A review of our stay as a paraplegic wheelchair user at Dreams Jade Resort & Spa, Riviera Maya, close to the town of Puerto Morelos, Mexico. A big thank you ...

This story goes back a few years now. I can't believe that Rob and I are approaching a 7-year-accidentiversary. Yuck. And hallelujah. Both are true!

Here I write for those who are feeling uprooted and homeless, for the lonely, even for those who are in that liminal space between life and death when you don't feel home here on earth anymore. It's about a moment when I was yelled at to "Go the hell home," and if you stick through to the end, there's a meditation that I hope will invite you into your truest home, which begins here and now. ❤️

For the Lonely, the Homeless, or the Crumbling of Body.

Rob and I had such a great trip to Mexico a few weeks ago! So, so glad we could go...between a cold lodging in his lungs and the violence in parts of the country, we weren't confident it would happen. :P

Read this piece if: you need a meditation to help you in anxious moments or you sometimes struggle to feel compassionate when your spouse or kids are sick.

Rejoice in the Lord always...the Lord is near.

The Kingdom of heaven is like so many things...Jesus abounded in metaphors to help us understand it. I'd like to invite you into one of mine.

When Rob prepares for sleep, it’s like settling in for takeoff in a rocket: he manages his toileting needs for the night, folds like a taco to remove his jeans and socks, lobs all the clothing carefully onto an adjacent wheelchair, smooths the wrinkles underneath him to prevent pressure sores, carefully situates his feet in ankle contracture boots, props himself up on one side with two pillows, whips up the blankets like a sail over his body so that they cover his boots, and finally sighs an immense exhale of relief when he’s done. If you’re lying next to him reading a book, the duvet is yanking left and right and it’s hard not to make jokes about what feels like the flailing seal next to me during this routine.

It’s not simple, being paralyzed. (Read more in my Substack post if you have a few minutes! 😊)

My husband was paralyzed in a car accident. A friend's husband fell 20-some feet from a ladder and was fine.

They were each treasured by Christ, for "not one will fall apart from the Father" (Matthew 10:29). Prayer while I sit in the cup of His hands helps me to trust this. Maybe you have time to keep reading...

I knew that I was going to have to write about the cemeteries in Austria (we enjoyed Christmas over there with Rob's Spanish family), but didn't quite know what thoughts it would lead to, just that I was incredibly happy strolling from one little garden to the next.

Maybe you have a moment to read my adulations.

Brokenness and beauty in one sentence.
