MY GREATEST GIFTS

There is so much for which to be grateful. Today my choice is to list them in the order of their importance to me.
The Gift of the Godhead, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each day the gift increases in its intensity along with my appreciation of it. Feeling the presence of the Godhead in my life gives me constant assurance of His love, watch care, comfort and assurance of eternity with them.
My Bible - Yes, it's a large print and that's some help at my age, and each morning as I spend time with it, I learn more and more of God's love for all his children, and that's EVERYONE!
Grace -"The divine assistance of God for the regeneration and salvation of mankind." That was Ron's definition, and it's oh so accurate! The more I read and understand, it can be seen in every Biblical account.
My two precious daughters, both of whom love me, provide generously for me, and visit me as often as possible considering their extremely busy lives. It's always such a pleasure to see them!
My Grandchildren, one near to me where I live, and the others at a distance. We get to communicate occasionally by phone, and what a joy!
Eight Great- Grandchildren. How blessed our whole family is! Not sure there will be more, but one never knows.
My residence. It's Assisted living with a comfortable bed, a sweet roommate and three meals a day. Breakfast is always my favorite, and eating a hearty one provides me with enough nourishment, even if the others are on my "do not eat" list. I have a microwave, a fridge, and supplements in our room.
The ability to write blogs and have them published by dear Petr, who is always "johnny on the spot" to do so. And of course, my computer, used for blogs, is another gift from my kind and generous daughter.
My roommate. She is a great help when my repeatedly injured back screams in pain. She applies my large heating pad (another gift from my daughters) and makes sure, asking often, if I'm OK.
10. My roommate's son who paid for my needed update of my ID, because when I discovered the price, I did not have the funds to repay. Now I do, thanks again to my daughter, Sara.

All things considered, I am blessed by my Heavenly Godhead! Their love and comfort are my constant companions. I am grateful for them, beyond words!

For what items are you grateful, and to you frequently thank God and others for them? It's a personal blessing when you do.

Lovingly,

Nancy

JOY-FILLED SPRINGTIME

Phew! Winter has finally passed and those cold mornings have become tolerable. Even a walk outside might be a nice change.
Spring is the season of joy. The flowers are returning - little crocus and pansies are peaking through the warming soil. The absolute coldness has reached its turning point. The loneliness and isolation of winter do not feel so threatening now, as a neighbor is seen in the swing on her front porch.
Spring is that gorgeous, sweet closing note of the salvation hymn we cherish with all our hearts. Christ has conquered death, and we will someday be with Him forever. Hallelujah. Hallelujah.
Spring brings us incredible, soul-searching moments of joy when we feel the overwhelming Love of God through His creations. The bunnies and quail of springtime with their broods of little ones, tickle us.
Joy is a gift from God and a feeling that bubbles up from where the soul lives, in the heart and mind.

However, there is an aspect of joy we often miss. We wake up in the morning and discover that we are still carrying the same griefs, the same ache we carried in our lives. But the Lord carries these with us, in us, through His Grace, during the long nights of the soul. He cries and mourns with us while still knowing that this will not last long.
Joy is one of the most powerful experiences we can have because it is an emotion that can co-exist with our actual lives. Joy can live along sadness, boredom, fear or even despair. And because we know joy, we receive a steady confidence that life is still worth living and loving, even when it hurts. The loss of a spouse or another loved one can be mourned, and Jesus weeps along with us.

Scripture is honest about this. Jesus weeps at Lazarus's tomb, even while knowing that resurrection was coming. The Apostle Paul speaks of being sorrowful yet always rejoicing. 2 Corinthians 6:10 and it's also found in Revelation 21:4.These promise a future where God will wipe away every tear. Soon our grieving will become rejoicing in the springtime of our souls at Jesus Christ's return.
Our joy is not joy instead of grief. It is joy with grief. It is joy that allows us to remain human and is truer than plain happiness. It is the deep assurance that the story is not finished, even when our lives feel painfully incomplete. We may live or feel alone but are never really alone!

Joy is the Grace of saying: "I am still waiting and God is still good." Not because everything has changed - but because God promises that one day everything will!

May these words be of some comfort and assurance to you is my prayer!

FAITH, LOVE AND COURAGE

Three words, faith, love, and courage are virtues necessary to navigate the torturous waters of life. As you consider these in your own life, you might, along with me, need to do some deep self-examination.
Certainly, when Jesus was on this earth, He demonstrated these virtues in His own life. Implicit faith in His Father, allowed His every step, all the way to the cross. Deep love for his disciples and for the needy who came for physical and spiritual healing, determined his everyday choices. Courage took Him to Pilates Judgement hall, to beatings and scourging and then on to Calvary.
Comparing my life to His, well there is NO comparison! My sufferings, as the Apostle Paul wrote, are nothing compared to those of my Savior!

Watching these virtues in others, my daughters come to mind. One is a supervising nurse who works very long hours, loving and caring for her patients in every department of the hospital. Her workdays often last 14 to 16 hours. Time with family and friends is minimum, to say the least. She works with a broken heart, due to the loss of her only son.
Another daughter's job is an Insurance Broker for multi-million-dollar corporations. Her job frequently takes her away from her husband to the other side of the state for days at a time. Meanwhile she has the determination to proceed while suffering from physical pain. Courage I'd say, and faith that God will see her through.
My prayers are with them early each morning and throughout the day!
I have just finished reading a book about the Amish. Granted, it is a novel but does portray an accurate picture of their beliefs. Yes, they have very strict guidelines for daily life, but they rely very heavily of the will of God. Their love for each other and for Da Hah as they refer to God, is incredible! Regardless of physical condition, their love and care for family and friends is above reproach.

Do you suppose you would be so faith-filled, loving and courageous is circumstances beyond your control? Would I?
May God grant you the ability to look at yourself with confidant eyes, is my prayer!

COME SOON LORD JESUS!

There is a great deal of sadness in the world. Certainly, you have noticed that. Mayhem and murders, crime of every kind - each of the 10 Commandments repeatedly broken. There are folk dying all the time. Precious family members become frail, cancer strikes many families, and frequently little ones suffer with various diseases. Philanthropic places, such as St. Jude's care, labor tirelessly to save little ones, and succeed in four out of five cases. Imagine the trauma to parents whose children are suffering the needed treatment such as surgeries and recovery procedures, and especially to those whose child becomes a statistic.
Here in my residence, I see sadness every day. Of course, I am not the healthiest on the block, but with God's divine intervention, I survive each day. Prayers that I am a channel of blessing to my roommate and to many others, inhabit each morning's quiet time before breakfast. That alone time is precious to me!
There are several friends who demonstrate pain and loneliness each day. With Mother's Day in a couple of weeks, I wonder how many residents will spend it alone, without their children. One friend has lost several children in death. Some residents have lost touch with their children due to their own faults or the children's uncaring attitudes. On that day, we have to be determined to be kind to each other!
There are some who have confided their pain-filled beginnings: being ignored, abandoned, losing a parent in death or divorce, or anger-filled childhood experiences still hounding their memories.

The loneliness for my husband remains daily. His torturous death remains a vivid recollection. Asking God for relief from the pictures of his frail body bring peacefulness. My prayer for projecting forward to the Lord's Second Coming permeates my frequent thoughts and dreams. 1 Thessalonians 4: 13-18. I am not fearful of death, for this will be a rest in Jesus until He returns, and a promise of reunion with my Ron and other family and friends. We are promised everlasting life through belief in the sacrificial and redemptive blood of Calvary. John 3:16 We are blessed with His promise to be ALWAYS with us, so we should never fear! Hebrews 11:13
May God grant your relief from painful memories, the precious assurance of His love 1 Peter 4:8 and life everlasting with Him, is my prayer.
Lovingly,

Nancy

10 COMMANDMENTS STILL COUNT?

The first four commandments contain our duty to God. The last six are concerning our duty to mankind as a whole. Do they still applicable today?

Well, the last six certainly still are necessary; ask any lawyer or judge.
Thou shalt not kill: You can be sure that a killer will land in prison or may even suffer the death penalty of life-long imprisonment.
Thou shalt not steal: Robbers also suffer jail and then prison. One just cannot take what one doesn't own.
Thou shalt not commit adultery: wouldn't that be stealing too? Afterall, taking what doesn't belong to you, is an offense. Recently near here, a man murdered his wife and the man with whom she was having an affair. As a decoy, he headed to the ocean but was seen days later. Until now, he has not been apprehended. He's in for a lot of trouble!
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor. This I know, "lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who deal truly are His delight." This taught me in my childhood.
Thou shalt honor thy father and thy mother, so that thy days may be long in the land that thy God gives thee.
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's ox or his ass (donkey) or anything that is thy neighbor's. "I wish I had" can lead to stealing it, and then that's another commandment broken.

Now, the first four commandments, our duty to God.
Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Thou shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything in the heavens above. Thou shall not bow down to them or worship them, for I the Lord thy God is a jealous God, visiting the iniquities of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me, but showing mercy to those who love me and keep my commandments.
Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who taketh His name in vain. (Personally,, I believe this is more than cursing but is also taking the name of "Christian" when you're not a follower of Jesus Christ.)
Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy, for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that it is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefor the Lord blessed the seventh day and hallowed it. Exodus 20:2-17

Yesterday was the 7th day. Oh, the new calendar depicts it as the first day but go ahead and count seven days, and you'll see it's the 7th day. So why does the world not worship and count holy on the seventh day? Because it was changed centuries ago by Constantine who marched his soldiers into the river and baptized them. He declared Sunday as the Sabbath. Wouldn't you rather worship God our Heavenly Father than Constantine?

God be with you as you review these commandments and apply them to your own life!

SCRIPTURE AND GRACE

Does the Bible contain information about Grace? One would assume it should be so. An exhaustive search has found MANY. Some will be quoted here, and others will just have listed chapter and verse.

Exodus 33:12,13 - "I know you by name, and you have also found GRACE in my sight. Now, therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know you and that I may find Grace in Your sight.
Psalm 45:2 - "You are fairer than the sons of men; Grace is poured upon your lips; Therefore, God has blessed you forever."
John 1:14 - "Jesus was full of Grace and Truth."
John 1:16 - "And of His fullness we have all received, and Grace for Grace."
Titus 2:11 - "For the Grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us . . .
James 4:6 - "But He gives more Grace, therefore He says, "God resists the proud but gives Grace to the humble."
2 John 1:3 - "Grace, mercy, and peace will be with you from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father in truth and love."
Revelation 22: 21 - The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. AMEN.

There are many more verses relating to Grace, but perhaps not so direct or poignant. Do exhaustive research of the word GRACE, and you will be blessed!

Graciously,

Nancy

PARTICIPATION IN GRACE - continued.

It's Friday morning, and determined to get this blog out, I press on. Sure, it's work but it's worthy of the pursuit, so back to the books and the Bible.

Unfortunately, my little dictionary does not offer a definition for the word "participate", but we all know that to participate in a game such as soccer, one has to get out on the field and be an active part of it, right? There is a noticeable difference in trying to imitate another player. In the spiritual realm, ours is not to imitate Jesus, but to participate with Him in His death on the cross, burial, resurrection and translation. So being a participant in a spiritual sense means being an active part of the divinely directed process of personal maturity.

The Apostle Paul, in a paroxysm of self-loathing, and in the anguish of self-despair, cries out for deliverance. Romans 7:24 - Huegel Sinful as we are thanks to Adam and Eve and the constant barrage of the devil, Jesus can and will pardon if we only believe.

It is not an imitation of Christ we should do, but it is a participation IN Christ - "For we are made partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, while it is said; "Today if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion". Hebrews 3:14,15

The trouble is we have not listened to Jesus, who plainly told us that we are to abide in Him as a branch in the vine. Matthew 5:6,7 Not abiding would be like freight cars without an engine, going nowhere, or a whale without water - impossible! Exceeding great and precious promises are given to us "that by these we might be partakers of the divine nature." 2 Peter 1:4

The believer is grafted into the trunk of the Eternal Godhead. "The riches of the glory of this mystery- Christ IN you the hope of glory." Colossians 1:27

If we are to be participants in the Cross, we will suffer, and that is our privilege. If we are to be participants in Jesus' death, we are to die too - to self, and that is our privilege. If we are to be participants in His resurrection, we are to rise to a newness in our lives. If we are to be participants in His translation, then our thoughts, our feelings, our intent and our behaviors should be heavenly continually, devoid of self!

This is quite a mouthful, a calling and a "claim as due." However, don't you think it's the least we can do considering His love for us, His daily watch care and His patience?
So, would you rather participate or have the power of God's Grace to assist you in your everyday life? For me, it's both.

God bless you as you contemplate this and thank Him for His mercy grace and the privilege of participation.

PATHWAY TO JESUS cont . . .

Journeys begin with just one step. Each day is given to us from God to start over again, following His directions. A pathway or a trail is the way to get from Point A to point B. God's Word, the Bible, is our map.
Why should we take this trip? As for me, I long for closeness with God - His living within. Better than His presence being only in a car or on a bicycle, is His presence in our heart.

In his sinless state, man held joyful communion with Him, "in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."" . Colossians 2:3
Once sin entered, Adam and Eve sought to hide from the presence of God, and after their sin they could no longer find Eden's joy in His presence.
Such is still the condition of the unrenewed heart. It is not in harmony with God and finds no joy in communion with Him. The sinner could not be happy in God's presence. He would shrink from the companionship of holy beings.
Steps to Christ, page 8
It is not possible for us to take the journey to holiness without help from the Holy Spirit. We need Him as a traveling companion and advisor.
What is meant by "holy or holiness?" According to Scripture, "The Law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good." Romans 7:16 And if we are wise, we will abide by each commandment!
So, why should we take this trip spoken of above? Because our destination is desirable! Not a pricey resort with a swimming pool, but closeness with Jesus, the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the Divine plan for our redemption and salvation, the gift from the Father, are current and long-term benefits. What mercy and grace He bestows!
And the great reward will be ours at the second coming of Jesus, in heaven and on the earth made new.
I want to enjoy now, and then. Don't you?

LIVING IN GRACE

Much has been said about GRACE. You've perhaps read a blog about it, it's potential indwelling, its power, it's God's love lavishly poured out. However, this blog is more about a personal experience this past weekend.
A very special friend was here visiting me from California, Dr. Jeff Evans. On one day we went to lunch at a Thai Restaurant quite near where I live. He ordered one thing and I ordered my favorite Red Curry with Tofu. It was not the best, but I ate it anyway, as Dr. Evans was paying the bill.
The next day we ventured to a little sandwich restaurant. Dr. Jeff ordered Mango smoothies for us both. And then, the eruption of the ages! I couldn't stop vomiting. I kept it up far too long, while my friend was trying to eat his lunch. He then asked if I wanted to go home, and I agreed. When arriving at my room, I vomited again. WHY?
Our decision was that I'd been poisoned by the curry.
Graciously, my Dr. Friend was able to obtain a medication from the pharmacy, designed to stop the vomiting, and it worked!
On Sabbath we went to church. The services lasted for three hours. My partial deafness made it impossible to hear most of the 3 hours, until the sermon, for one hour toward the close. We kept comparing notes. Grace based or performance based. The results were disheartening - mostly "do this and this, and you'll be saved. SAD!
And what did Jeff do? Next day he went to the pharmacy and returned with hearing aids for me - Kind, caring, loving, generous, graced-filled Jeff!
So, the major conclusion here is: Dr. Jeff is living in GRACE! Now of course it's not up to me to decide his salvation, except to say that he demonstrated Christ living within during the entirety of his visit! I have been blessed by the Christ who lives within him and shall never forget his visit!
Will I ever be blessed to see him again? I do not know, but God knows. One thing I do know is that we will meet again at the resurrection and on the sea of glass. My sweet husband will be as happy to see Dr. Jeff, as I will. We will enjoy the ceaseless ages of eternity together.
I pray that I'll see you there, too!

DISGUSTED WITH THE DEVIL!

It's true, we live in a sin-filled world. No one would question that. The enemy is still playing his destructive game of "divide and conquer." Recently, a family was divided who lived here in my area, when a husband killed his wife and then the man with whom she was having an affair. Probably as a decoy, he headed to the ocean as if he were going to commit su***de, but was found a couple of days later, walking on the beach. As of yet, he has not been jailed. What concerns and hurts me more however, is when the devil plays his destructive game with Christians and the churched!

For example, my home church is enduring his tactics currently. For years, my parents and I were members there. My father and mother were both active teachers of the gospel. My mother actually brought a real live lamb to church one week to teach the children about Jesus as the Good Shepherd and that they were his little lambs. Now, however, the church is split. One group is cultish and exclusive, and the other group is inclusive and loving. My poor parents would turn over in their graves if they knew what was happening, if that were even possible.

I continue to pray for that church I love. Memories of it and its connection with my family are very precious to me. Of course, God is in charge, and that makes me grateful and hopeful. The cultish group needs our love and prayers because they are the Lord's kids too. And the inclusive group needs our prayers for the stamina to endure what they are suffering.

Scripture is filled with the longsuffering of God's love. I am thrilled that the Lord will continue to plead for his wandering ones to return to Him. For that promise we are grateful! I look forward to meeting everyone from my home church when Jesus comes again, and I pray that until then He will continue to call them to live out his love to each other and to the community.

Confidently, and with LOVE,

Nancy
