Farmers’ markets offer a fundamentally different food system. At the Berkeley Farmers’ Markets, you can stand across from the person who grew your apples, winter squash, or leafy greens. You can ask what’s in season, how something was grown, or even how they recommend preparing it.

Homes and buildings are the second-largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in East Bay cities like Berkeley. 🏡🌎

A small update to our store hours!

As we adjust for our new staffing structure:

On Wednesdays/Thursdays, the store will close from 2:15 to 2:45 p.m. for a staff break.

Break times may vary slightly, but we’ll do our best to keep this schedule.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for A Slice of Our Markets. From meeting local farmers to hearing the inspiring story of Lute Farms, the evening was a celebration of the people who make our food system thrive.

Your support helps strengthen farmers' markets, support local growers, and expand access to fresh, healthy food.

We also featured a Stop Waste food demo of carrot top lemon gremolata made by our Farmers’ Market Program Manager Daniel McChesney-Young.

Calling all foodies and friendsies!

Farmers’ markets nourish people. Whether that’s by putting good food on our plates, or taking time with your friends and neighbors in an ever-rare third space, farmers’ markets nourish us from the inside out.

Stop by your local Berkeley Farmers’ Market any Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday and see (and taste) for yourself!

Ingredients:
1 Canary melon
1 Serpent cucumber
Purple basil (Genovese is fine)
3-4 Sweet peppers
1 small Onion (white or yellow is fine)
Lemon juice & zest
1/2 cup of olive oil

Roast the onions and peppers until lightly blackened. Mince finely.
Juice and zest half of the lemon.
Mix juice, zest, and onion/pepper mince with olive oil. Salt to taste. Add more lemon juice to taste.
Chop the cucumber and melon to desired size. Adjust portions of cucumber and melon to equal proportion.
Finely chop 3-5 leaves of basil.
Mix the basil, melon, cucumber, and pepper dressing. Adjust basil, lemon juice, and salt to taste. Add avocado if desired.
Serve!
