This Memorial Day, Cal Veterans Group honors the UC Berkeley students and alumni who gave their lives in service to the United States.
Among them was PFC John Moses Ananian, a UC Berkeley anthropology graduate. He intended to teach when he returned from his service. He was a U.S. Army soldier assigned to Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division.
PFC Ananian was killed in action in Pleiku Province, South Vietnam on September 30, 1969, at just 23 years old.
He came to Berkeley to learn.
He left Berkeley to serve.
And he never made it home.
UC Berkeley students served and died in:
• World War I
• World War II
• Korea
• Vietnam
Did you know the Memorial Glade was created to honor WWII veterans who died in the line of duty?
Across this campus, memorials stand as reminders that generations of Cal students answered the call to serve, and some paid the ultimate price.
Today we remember them.
Honor. Remember. Never Forget.
