Since 1976, Berkeley High School Jazz, one of California’s top award-winning high school jazz bands, has played jazz festivals in Europe, Japan, and California including the Next Generation Jazz Festival at the Monterey Jazz Festival.

Hailed for its spirited performances, Berkeley High School Jazz has launched the careers of some of the best musicians in the jazz world, including Joshua Redman, Peter Apfelbaum, Benny Green, Ambrose Akinmusire, and Dave Ellis.

See Berkeley Jazz alumni Will Bernard and Raffi Garabedian at the Back Room in Berkeley, Friday night at 8pm (June 19).

With Deszon Claiborne (drums) and Sam Bevan (bass). These four virtuoso players have all made the most of their musical lives. Not only are they all widely considered to be at the highest level on their respective instruments, but each of them has played and recorded with literally dozens of important artists in a variety of styles. Expect some eye-popping technique along with soulful creativity.

The 2 o’clock and 3 o’clock bands are on Wednesday night.

Ensemble and the 11 o’clock bands are on Thursday.

Both are 7 to 9 pm. Get tickets in advance or at the door. Students and staff are free.
