Emerge Berkeley

Emerge Berkeley We're a church in Berkeley, CA. Come find out what that means. Hard questions welcome — nobody pretends to have it figured out. Hard questions are welcome here.

Sundays @ 10:30am · Wednesdays @ 7pm · In-person & online. Emerge Berkeley is an evangelical, Spirit-filled church rooted in Scripture and built for the real diversity of the East Bay — students, young professionals, immigrants, and families from Berkeley, Oakland, and beyond. We believe faith should be both thoughtful and lived out. That means honest teaching, real community, and showing up for t

he neighborhood. Nobody is expected to have it figured out before they walk in. Sunday gatherings run about 75–80 minutes. We have Emerge Kids (Pre-K–5th grade) and Epic Youth (6th–8th grade) every Sunday and Wednesday.

After Peter denied Jesus three times, Jesus asked him the same question three times.

“Do you love me?”
Not as punishment. To restore him.

That is either the most unsettling thing in the Gospels or the most merciful. Possibly both.

Wednesday night we sit with it honestly.
Table Talk. 7 PM. 2515 Hillegass Ave, Berkeley, CA 94704. Walk in.

Most of what we call a "between-season" is actually God doing the work you cannot see yet.

The book of Ruth ends with ten names nobody remembers. Ordinary people. Unbroken chain. None of them could see what the whole thing was moving toward.

The genealogy nobody reads is the answer to the question most of us are quietly asking.

The book of Ruth ends with ten names nobody remembers. Ordinary people. Unbroken chain. None of them could see what the whole thing was moving toward.

Tomorrow night, something new starts at Emerge Berkeley.

For the 18–29 crowd living in the East Bay, this is for you.

𝗔𝗰𝗰𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘀.
A woman caught in the act.
A crowd with stones in their hands.
And Jesus writing something in the dirt.

“Where are your accusers?"

He didn’t defend her. He didn’t condemn her.
He did something more difficult than either of them.

Wednesday night, we sit with what He actually did and what it means for the way we hold other people’s worst moments.

Table Talk. 7 PM. 2515 Hillegass Ave, Berkeley.

𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲.
The moment loyalty becomes expensive is the moment you find out whether you actually had it.

Ruth 4 puts two men side by side at the city gate.
Same legal right. Same opportunity. The same woman was in front of them, who needed someone to step in.

One did the math and walked away.
One counted the same cost and came anyway.

Most of us have been the first man more than we like to admit.

Yesterday at Emerge, we sat with the gap between those two.
And what lives in that gap is not just a story about Boaz.

06/14/2026

Boaz goes to the city gate and publicly negotiates Ruth's redemption. True loyalty is costly, visible, and covenantal. This sermon explores what it means to follow through when it costs you something, and how Boaz's faithfulness foreshadows Christ's.

𝗚𝗮𝗽.
Most people are not hypocrites.
They are just further from their convictions than they realize.

Jesus asked about it once. One sentence.
Tonight, we answer honestly.

𝗟𝗼𝗿𝗱?
You can say all the right things and still choose to live in contradiction. Jesus knew that. He named it out loud.

“𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗠𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗿𝗱 — 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗜 𝘀𝗮𝘆?”

One sentence. Every person in the room will feel it.
Wednesday night, we sit with it together. Honestly.

𝟳 𝗣𝗠. 𝟮𝟱𝟭𝟱 𝗛𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗔𝘃𝗲, 𝗕𝗲𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘆. 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗶𝗻.
