Established in 1958, ABC of Metro Washington is one of 75 chapters in a nationwide federation of more than 23,000 merit shop construction and construction-related firms with nearly two million employees. Locally, ABC of Metro Washington is more than 500 member companies strong. ABC members are dedicated to free enterprise, open competition, and the merit shop philosophy. They are the builders of s

chools, hospitals, government buildings, recreational facilities, commercial centers, industrial plants, bridges, roads, museums, churches, and more. Merit Shop is a way of doing business in which companies reward employees based on performance and encourage them to reach their highest level of achievement, and in which contracts are awarded based on safety, quality and value, regardless of labor affiliation.

More than 400 ABC members who perform work in every state, as well as industry leaders, met in Washington, D.C. last week for Associated Builders and Contractors' Annual Legislative Conference to advocate for fair and open competition.

The event featured U.S. Rep. Lisa McClain, R-Mich.; U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson, R-Iowa; and Chris LaCivita, co-campaign manager for Donald J. Trump for President 2024, followed by hundreds of visits with lawmakers on Capitol Hill.

During meetings with congressional leaders, ABC of Metro Washington leadership emphasized the importance of policies that support workforce development, fair competition, jobsite safety, and sensible regulations.

As the construction industry continues to build America's infrastructure and economic future, ABC remains committed to expanding opportunities for the next generation of skilled construction professionals.
