At the Brave in the Attempt event last week, both Brandon Lilly and Quintanna Moody delivered powerful, thoughtful talks that had the audience listening closely, laughing, and cheering. We’re so proud of them and grateful to everyone who came out to support; friends, family, Compass community members, and even Brandon’s boss from Kennedy Street Tacos at Jackie Lee's, Chef Jarren.

Thank you to Special Olympics Maryland for hosting such a meaningful event and for creating space for stories that matter. Keep an eye out in the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing videos of both Compass speakers’ talks soon.

Greg, a Compass-supported artist from Howard County, now has his artwork on display at the Maryland House of Delegates! You can find his intricate illustrations near the Anne Arundel delegation offices. His work will be on view through the next legislative session, so if you're visiting Annapolis for advocacy or meetings, be sure to stop by and take a look. Greg's detailed, imaginative scenes are worth the visit.

In our second annual Art for All contest, we invited K–12 students from Montgomery, Prince George’s, and Howard counties to answer this question: “What does inclusion look like to you?” And 86 students took the time to reflect and respond through their art—each work offering a unique and thoughtful perspective on telling the story of inclusion.
From those submissions, top three winners were selected from each grade group. Congratulations to all of this year’s participants and winners. Your art matters!

This morning, Compass, Inc.'s Director of Communications and Resource Development, Deva Ludwig, stopped by District Bistro in Wheaton for the Joint Chamber Coffee and Cards with Cops event. A huge thank you to the Montgomery County Police Department for everything you do to keep our community safe. Compass participants and staff traveled to Washington, D.C. this week to take part in a 24-hour Medicaid vigil on the Capitol grounds. The event brought together advocates, allies, and public officials to speak out against proposed federal budget cuts that would cut hundreds of billions in Medicaid funding. These cuts would shift costs to states, reduce funding for service providers, and threaten access to community-based services that people with disabilities rely on.

Our group of 32 attendees stood alongside many others in support of Medicaid, including Congressman Rep. Jamie Raskin, who was among the leaders who joined in to protect critical services. We’re proud to be part of this advocacy, and we’ll keep showing up.

ICYMI! DDA Budget Breakdown: What You Need to Know from Maryland's 2025 Legislative Session. Governor Moore’s initial budget proposed deep cuts to disability services, sparking major concern across the state. In response, advocates rallied—meeting with legislators, attending rallies, and sending nearly 300 letters from Compass alone. Thanks to this powerful advocacy, most of the cuts were reversed and vital DDA funding was restored. This protects essential services like residential supports, LISS, self-direction, and more, while also expanding youth programs. Big wins this session—and advocacy doesn’t stop here!

Member of the Compass community were proud to participate in the 2025 Disability Policy Seminar earlier this week—a powerful gathering of advocates, self-advocates, and professionals working to advance disability rights and policies in Washington D.C.

The event wrapped up with Hill Day, which included a rally to protect Medicaid right outside the Capitol building. Senator Van Hollen, along with other representatives and self-advocates, shared powerful messages about the importance of Medicaid for our communities.

We also had the opportunity to meet with the offices of Rep. Jamie Raskin and Senator Angela Alsobrooks to share what matters most to the people we support and to advocate for Medicaid in the face of federal cuts.

Governmental advocacy is essential—and we’re grateful to be in this work together.

Last night, Compass hosted our first-ever Roommate Matching Meet-Up! We welcomed attendees from both Compass and the broader community who are exploring independent living in Prince George’s and Montgomery counties. Through a fun “speed-matching” activity, guests had the chance to meet others on a similar housing journey, make new friends, and even discover potential roommates.

Our Housing Support Services program looks forward to hosting more events like this one to support people in finding the right living situation and building meaningful community connections.

Today is World Autism Awareness Day! Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. No two autistic people are exactly alike! Some communicate with words, others in different ways. Some need more daily support, while others thrive independently. Every autistic person has unique strengths and challenges, and that’s what makes the spectrum so diverse. What's one thing you've learned about autism that changed your perspective? Drop your thoughts in the comments.
