Contact MSDE to support access to arts and music for middle schools!

MMEA is asking all music educators and arts supporters to take action regarding Maryland’s 300-minute-per-week mathematics mandate for middle school students. While strengthening mathematics achievement is important, this requirement could have serious unintended consequences for arts programs and student access to music.

NAfME Hill Day 2026 is happening soon!

On June 24, 2026, nearly 300 advocates - from national leaders and state MEA representatives to collegiate students and NAfME partners - will return to Capitol Hill to support programs and policies that benefit music education programs, students, and educators.

MMEA Leadership will be in attendance advocating to our Maryland representatives.

We need your help! Participate in the 2026 NAfME Hill Day virtual campaign and contact your members of Congress. The more lawmakers hear from constituents ahead of our Hill Day meetings, the more music education will remain top of mind when we meet with them to advocate in person.

🎉 Congratulations to an outstanding Maryland music educator who has been named Baltimore City’s Teacher of the Year for 2026-2027, as recognized by the Maryland State Department of Education!

Dr. Otis L. Eldridge Jr. teaches at Hamilton Elementary School in Baltimore City, and has been a dedicated MMEA board member for the past four years.

We also extend our congratulations to the many exceptional music educators who were nominated and considered during this process.
