One of the most inspiring stories coming out of the 2026 World Cup is not about a player.
It is about a referee.
Omar Abdulkadir Artan, a referee and one of Africa’s finest officials, was selected to officiate at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. For any referee, this is the highest honor in football. Years of sacrifice, training, discipline, and excellence had finally paid off.
Then the unexpected happened.
Despite having the necessary documents, he was denied entry and was sent back home. His World Cup dream appeared to be over before it even started. Around the world, people spoke of disappointment, loss, and injustice.
But God was not finished writing his story.
What looked like a closed door became the pathway to a greater one.
Only days later, UEFA announced that Omar Artan would officiate the UEFA Super Cup, one of the most prestigious matches in world football, featuring Europe’s champions. What many thought was the end became a new beginning.
This is how God works.
Joseph was rejected by his brothers, but God promoted him to the palace.
David was forgotten in the field, but God brought him to the throne.
Daniel was thrown into the lions’ den, but God turned it into a platform for promotion.
The enemy may close one door, but God can open a greater one.
People may send you back, but God can send you forward.
What looks like rejection today may become the reason for your next level tomorrow.
Never cry too long over a door that closes. The God who controls your destiny is able to open doors no man can shut.
Sometimes God’s promotion does not come through the path you expected.
The setback is not your story.
The comeback is.
“What the enemy meant for evil, God meant for good.” Genesis 50:20
If God has spoken over your life, no rejection can cancel it, no disappointment can stop it, and no closed door can destroy it.
Your story is not over. God is still opening doors.
