Strong Like AK

We are a diverse group sharing a passion for supporting pediatric cancer patients in our community. Strong Like AK was formed upon Adam's initial diagnosis.

We needed a way to communicate with the army of support that surrounded Adam and our family. What started as a small group has now blossomed into a community of more than 5,000 supporters. Adam began to touch hearts all over the world, some of which he will never know. So many were in awe of the bravery and stoicism Adam showed throughout his journey. Three words often stand out when thinking of A

dam and his journey: Strength, Love, and Unity. He was one of the STRONGEST you would ever meet who had an abundance of LOVE for life, friends, and family. The UNITY between our blended family throughout this journey is something we consider very special and something Adam was very proud of. These three words serve as a foundation of the support Strong Like AK has to offer so many throughout the pediatric cancer community. We are thankful for our army of supporters and are looking forward to a bright future of supporting pediatric cancer patients and families within our community while honoring the life and memory of Adam M. Kincaid.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. 💛

For us, It’s for Adam.

It’s for every child receiving treatment today.

It’s for the parents sleeping beside hospital beds, the siblings waiting at home, and the families whose lives changed with words they never expected to hear.

Before childhood cancer became part of our family’s story, it was something that happened to someone else.

Another family.
Another child.
Another hospital room.

Then it became ours.

That is one of the hardest truths about childhood cancer. No family believes this will be their story until suddenly it is.

This September, when you see the gold ribbons, we’re asking you to see more than a ribbon.

See the child who should be worrying about school instead of treatment.

See the parent trying to hold a family together while sitting beside a hospital bed.

See the sibling whose world changed, too.

See the family traveling for treatment, wondering how they’ll manage another hotel, another bill, another unexpected expense.

And see these children for who they are, not simply patients, but kids with jokes to tell, birthdays to celebrate, dreams to chase, and whole lives waiting for them.

Children are supposed to grow up.

Adam should have.

We would give anything for more time with him. More birthdays. More laughter. More completely ordinary days.

We cannot change Adam’s story. But we can choose what we do with the love he left behind. And we choose to make it useful.

We open doors for families who need a place to stay.

We help with bills when treatment has turned life upside down.

We create moments of joy for kids who deserve the chance to simply be kids.

We stand beside families and remind them they are not alone. That is Strong Like AK.

This September, we’re asking you to stand with us.

Go gold. Give. Volunteer. Share Adam’s story. Share our mission. Help another family know they do not have to walk this road alone.

And when September ends, please stay.

Because childhood cancer doesn’t end on September 30.

Neither will we.

Strong leadership starts with being willing to keep learning. 💙

We’re excited to share that Strong Like AK Board Chair, Phil Kincaid, is part of the Leadership Gaston Fall Class of 2026!

Over the coming months, Phil and his classmates will step outside their everyday roles to learn more about Gaston County, from education and government to healthcare, public safety, business, the arts, and more.

Phil also becomes the third member of Strong Like AK’s leadership to participate in Leadership Gaston, joining Executive Director Kim Webb and Board Member Scott Attaway.

We’re especially grateful for what that means for our organization. Every new relationship, perspective, and lesson helps us become better leaders and stronger partners in the community we love.

Strong Like AK began because a community surrounded Adam and our family with love. Today, we carry that legacy forward by embracing families battling childhood cancer with comfort, financial care, and lasting memories.

Congratulations to Phil and the entire Fall Class of 2026. We can’t wait to see where this experience takes you, and what you bring back to our community. 👏🎉

We are so excited and incredibly grateful to share that the 14th Annual Topless Cruise will benefit Strong Like AK this year!

A huge thank you to Denise Price Thomas, founder of the Topless Cruise, and Julie Michelle Galloway, who is organizing this special day. We are honored that they have chosen to rally our community around Strong Like AK and the families we serve.

🚙 And despite the name, you don’t need a convertible to join the fun! All vehicles are welcome: convertibles, trucks, motorcycles, street-legal golf carts, vans and more.

This is what the Strong Like AK House is all about. ❤️

This past week, we had the privilege of spending a few hours with this precious family staying at our Strong Like AK House in Belmont.

We laughed, talked, and had the chance to learn more about their family and their beautiful daughter who is a fighter, to say the least. Her smile says so much.

While their daughter receives treatment, this family has a comfortable place to call home, at no cost, where they can simply be together. And for a few hours, we got to sit with them, share some smiles, and get to know the wonderful people behind the door we are so blessed to open.

In honor of Adam, this is what we want every family who stays with us to feel: welcomed, cared for, and surrounded by a community that is standing with them.

To this sweet family, thank you for letting us spend time with you. We are honored to be a small part of your journey. ❤️
