Sept. 28th, two years ago, was the day that Conduit Carolinas truly began. I posted a quick flyer on my instagram page; a loose plan to gather supplies and find where they needed to go, with only the expectation that maybe a truck bed would get filled.
We didn't have a plan. We didn't have structure. We didn't even have a name, just "Hurricane Helene Relief" scrawled across a big whiteboard outside our donated staging area in the cafeteria of the old Belmont Middle School.
We were underprepared in every way.
What we did have was a place to gather, hands that refused to sit idle, and a whole lot of friends, old and new. And what you brought is what filled our cups.
Two years later, I'm still overwhelmed by all of it: the generosity, the hours given, the steady care, and the remarkable mix of grief, determination, and community that grew out of those days.
Today, Conduit moves in a different manner, providing connections between partners from here to WNC. Because of YOU, Conduit delivered over ONE MILLION POUNDS of supplies over these past two years, assisted in distributing grants to programs that helped rebuild homes, private bridges, and support families. You've helped us cover needs from Gaston County all the way to Tennessee and West Virginia. You helped us be the neighbor our WNC Helene victims needed, and we LOVE you all so much for it.
Today, we're holding close everyone who carries the memory of that loss. May your rebuilding keep moving forward, and may the strength your community showed in those early weeks continue to carry you.
