Our mission of mercy is to love and empower women and children who are homeless through safe housing and services that build self-sufficiency. Catherine's House opened in November 1992, on the grounds of the former Sacred Heart College, as a transitional home for women and mothers with children who are homeless. Inspired by the foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, Catherine McAuley, this program see

Please join us in welcoming our new intern, Sierra, to the Catherine’s House family! 💗💚

Sierra is a second-year student in UNC Charlotte’s three-year Master of Social Work program. Originally from Morganton, NC, she is excited to learn more about case management, advocacy, providing support, and leading groups for women and children experiencing homelessness.

Outside of her studies, Sierra enjoys watching documentaries, reading, and listening to music. And if you’re looking for her, there’s a good chance she has a coffee in hand and some Biscoff cookie butter nearby! ☕🍪

We’re so excited to have Sierra with us and look forward to all she will bring to Catherine’s House! Welcome, Sierra!

Today, we’re wishing all Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) students, teachers, administrators, and staff an incredible first day of school!

A new school year brings fresh opportunities to learn, grow, and dream big. We hope every student feels encouraged, every teacher feels appreciated, and every classroom is filled with curiosity, kindness, and success.

At Catherine's House, we know that education plays a vital role in creating brighter futures, and we're cheering on every student as they begin this new chapter.

Mission Monday: Staff Spotlight — Patti!

This Mission Monday, we’re shining the spotlight on Patti, our Community Engagement & Operations Manager!

Patti helps keep Catherine’s House running smoothly while overseeing daily operations, engaging volunteers, building meaningful community partnerships, and assisting with fundraising initiatives and special events that support the women and children we serve.

When asked what she loves most about her job, Patti didn’t hesitate: the women.

“Watching someone arrive feeling defeated and overwhelmed, then seeing her leave with confidence, purpose, and a plan for the future reminds me every day why Catherine’s House exists. Those transformations never get old.”

Some of Patti’s favorite moments happen during holidays and special events at Catherine’s House, when she gets to see our community surround the women and children with love, encouragement, and support.

“There’s something so special about seeing the happiness it brings them to know they are loved and cared for.”

Outside of Catherine’s House, Patti is currently planning a dream trip to Okinawa, Japan, where she’ll visit her daughter and son-in-law, who will be stationed there with the Marines. 🇯🇵✈️

We are so grateful for all Patti does to connect our residents, volunteers, staff, and community together. Thank you, Patti, for helping make Catherine’s House a place where women and children know they are supported, valued, and loved!

🧸💚 A big thank you to Zoe, a 5th grader, and Lizzie, a 2nd grader, from Ida Rankin Elementary for their incredible kindness and generosity!

These two amazing students organized a stuffed animal drive to bring comfort and joy to the children at Catherine’s House. Their thoughtful donation will help make our little ones feel loved, supported, and cared for during their time with us.

We are so grateful for young leaders in our community who are already making a difference. Thank you, Zoe and Lizzie, for reminding us that kindness has no age limit!
