Good Bill Alert! Senate Bill 960: Modernized Children with Disabilities funding.

The bill raises the cap on state funding for students for disabilities to 16%.
The bill also calls for the The Department of Public Instruction to create and maintain a High-Cost Disabilities Support
Fund to provide public school funds for costs associated with educating children with disabilities who require intensive and specialized services.

If your child is Deaf or hard-of-hearing and has an IEP — this one's for you. 📋

Most parents walk into IEP meetings not knowing what they're entitled to ask for. So let me make it plain:

1. Communication Access — What supports are in place? An interpreter? FM system? Captioning? AAC? Get specifics.

2. Least Restrictive Environment — Is your child truly included, or just placed in a room without real support?

3. Transition Planning — What skills and supports will carry your child into adulthood — not just next semester?

You have the right to ask.
You have the right to push back.
And you do not have to walk into that room alone.

That's what Favor Foundation is here for. 💛

👇🏾 Drop a ✋🏾 if you've ever left an IEP meeting with more questions than answers.

Happy ASL Interpreter Appreciation Day!

Today we're celebrating the incredible ASL interpreters at Helen Keller National Center who make communication access possible for our entire community, every single day.

Through visual and tactile ASL, you ensure that our participants and staff can connect, collaborate, and engage fully, whether in training sessions, workplace settings, meetings, or community events.

To our interpreting team: your skill, dedication, and presence make a real difference. Thank you for everything you do for HKNC and the DeafBlind community.

ID: An HKNC interpreter and a participant sit facing each other, with their hands connected in tactile ASL communication. The HKNC logo appears in the upper left corner, and bold white text across the bottom reads "Happy ASL Interpreter Appreciation Day."

Deaf Awareness Week, Day 3 — and we're clearing the air. 🤲🏾

These myths aren't just wrong — they're harmful.

They shape how schools respond to our kids, how doctors communicate with patients, and how communities treat people who communicate differently.

At Favor Foundation, we believe every family deserves accurate information — especially when navigating systems that weren't built with your child in mind.

Save this. Share this. Someone in your circle needs it. 💛

👇🏾 Drop the myth you've heard the most.

In 1880, 164 people — almost all of them hearing — gathered in Milan and voted to ban sign language from every Deaf school in the world.

Students who signed were physically punished.
Deaf teachers were fired.
An entire language was declared inferior.

And it stayed that way for 130 years.

It took until 2010 for a formal apology — and an acknowledgment that it was "an act of discrimination and violation of human rights."

But here's what they couldn't kill:

ASL survived. In homes. In churches. In Deaf clubs. Passed down by a community that refused to let anyone erase who they were.

That's the resilience we're honoring this week. 🤲🏾

Save this. Share this. The history of Deaf education belongs in every conversation about access and advocacy.

This week is Deaf Awareness Week — and at Favor Foundation, we don't just observe awareness weeks. We use them.

1 in 8 people in the U.S. has some form of hearing loss. Yet Deaf and hard-of-hearing families are still fighting for access, representation, and dignity in schools, hospitals, and communities.

All week, I'll be sharing resources, facts, and tools — because awareness without action is just noise. 🤝🏾

Inclusion shouldn’t require a performance.

At the heart of our mission is a simple belief: you shouldn’t have to "edit" who you are to be accepted.

For so many in our neurodivergent community—ADHD, OCD, sensory differences, Autism—the world feels built with a "standard" setting. To navigate it, many feel forced to mask.
To perform a version of "normalcy" just to ensure the comfort of others.

But this invisible labor comes with a heavy tax. Exhaustion. Burnout. A loss of self.

Real inclusion isn't a checklist; it’s the freedom to exist without a facade.

At The Favor Foundation, we are moving from conditional acceptance to radical belonging.
Let’s stop asking people to change how they think to fit the room. Let’s start building rooms worthy of the people in them.
You belong here. And we are fighting for you. 🤎
