VADIANDO 2026 RECAP⚡️
This past June we held the second annual Vadiando Vermont, 10 days of teaching, training and immersion in Capoeira.
With half a dozen teachers and over 60 participants from as far away as Columbia and California and as close as Western Mass and Vermont, the warm summer days were spent making instruments, playing music, practicing Capoeira. swimming and eating home grown food. Daily classes were held for both new and experienced capoeiristas, and rodas were held nightly.

Capoeira is unique in its ability to cultivate community and group connection. The tools we develop in the form musically, physically and mentally around improvisation, group listening and stepping into one’s power are rich and ancient. Vadiando VT offers a long-form way to both rest and engage within the culture we create through Capoiera and offers a place where people from multiple lineages, groups and styles and gather and play with one another.

We are grateful the 2026 teaching team!

Jared Williams facilitates this month’s Contact Improvisation Jam at the Field Center!

In this warm-up into open jamming we will explore how we might track, enter, cultivate and exit trios and group improvisation

Jared has been studying, researching and falling down inside of CI spaces since 2011.
He has learned Contact Improvisation from and worked with Nancy Stark Smith, Karen Nelson, Taja Will, Chris Aiken, Jennifer Nugent, Keith Hennessy and Scott Wells among many others and has been facilitating and teaching Contact Improvisation since 2016.

He founded the JP Contact Improvisation Jam in Jamaica Plain, Boston where he lived for many years and continues to teach and facilitate CI based workshops and events in his role as Director at the Field Center in Vermont.

In his dancing he is interested in how we dance with the world as it is, how we cultivate an ethical wildness, group wilderness as places of emergent structure, rest and edges.

EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION OPEN NOW🍄🥀🐾
STRANGE NATURE | HANA VAN DER KOLK + LEA KIEFFER
What might be revealed by touching, listening to, looking at, being deeply with a shell, a glittery garment, another’s body, a fallen log turned home for an ecosystem? How might these intimate encounters be felt and expressed through our bodies? And how might they change how we conceive of our bodies all together? What are the dances, rituals, practices, new ecosystems, tributes that emerge from here?

In this week-long workshop anchored in collaborative ritual, engaging body, attention, and imagination-centering physical/dance practices, and passionate and uncanny encounters with objects, landscape, and costume, we will “dialogue” with ourselves, one another, and everything to ask: how and why might we become more tender, more monstrous, more clairvoyant, more fluid; recognizing/uncovering our already multiple, hybrid, contradictory, messy, monstrous selves, groupings, world in the process. Rigorously courting strangeness, we play along the fluid spectrums of quotidian/performative, minimal/extravagant, personal/political, mundane/magical.

In 2026 we gather around Samhain/Halloween and will welcome the veil-thinning quality of this time; the night growing longer, the earth decaying and transforming towards rest, our alter egos, shadows, monsters, grief, and ancestors perhaps closer and calling to us. Dancers, artists, writers, schemers, activists, healers, and aspiring/inspiring freaks, come join us in play, risk, and world-making.

Guided by dancers, makers, researchers, and facilitators Lea Kieffer and Hana van der Kolk, Strange Nature began at the Field Center in 2022 with the curatorial and match maki
ng vision of Field Center founder Jared Williams. We have reconvened yearly since.

More about the pre-jam class and warm-up with Anya Smolnikova: We will be looking at the possibility of what could happen if we show up fully and without rushing. We’ll start with some physical and perhaps metaphysical warm-ups; moving towards group grooves creating and entering the jam space together.

This workshop will be a focused container for the study and practice of Contact Improvisation. Classes will range from slow, subtle, and meditative material surrounding presence, listening techniques, and somatic exploration, to dynamic, playful and athletic dancing scores. We will review foundations for dancing with weight in motion, and entering into and out of touch. We will meet the ground as it meets our feet. We will pay attention to detail and patiently attune to each other and ourselves. We will also liberate ourselves to play and run like silly foxes in the snow. We will investigate the sensational experiences of falling, flying, rolling, and stillness. We will dance a lot.

Forums for Indigenous Research & Exchange return this MAY for its 3rd iteration.

F.I.R.E. is a self-curated cohort of Indigenous multidisciplinary artists from across the Turtle Island [eg: Central / North / Arctic regions of America ] that gather for one week per year to work, rest, collaborate and connect around process, practice and life!

Each cohort is curated by and with the artists from the previous year, ensuring new artists, both established and emerging, have a chance to attend and for previous participants to return.

The artists range in discipline from noise and sound artists, painters, writers, visual artists and muralists, to dancers, performance-based artists and scholars.

This is a special event for us always and lands as the spring is really taking hold and the birds, spring peepers, flowers and animals are on the move. Always hilarious, beautiful and green!
