Classroom Grandmas and Grandpas provide one-on-one mentoring and attention to children needing extra support. Foster Grandparents are placed at volunteer sites such as public and private schools, preschool programs, Head Start centers, non-profit day care centers and other community youth programs. AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparents must be 55 years of age or older, relatively good health and must love kids. When applying to be a volunteer staff will inquire about your income for eligibility. There is an income guideline to receive a tax free hourly government stipend and mileage reimbursement. To ensure safety, all volunteers will need to complete the programs required background checks and attend pre-service trainings. Being a Foster Grandparent volunteer gives people an opportunity to stay active in their communities, give them a purpose to get up every morning, meet new people, make friends and make a difference in the community in which you live. The Pioneer Foster Grandparent Program serves the counties 12 counties in SE Nebraska.
