CSEA leaders today joined with Senator Michelle Hinchey for a news conference in Kingston where they called on Gov. Kathy Hochul to sign S.8837, a bill that would allow counties to offer their probation officers the same line of duty benefits under Section 207-c of New York State General Municipal Law as other law enforcement professionals in our state.

CSEA Local 1000 Statewide Secretary Stacey Baldwin Deyo, a Greene County probation supervisor, shared some of her own experiences on the job, highlighting how probation officers face the same risks as others in law enforcement but don't receive full salary when injured and are often required to use their own personal time accruals. CSEA members from probation departments in Ulster County and Dutchess County also shared anecdotes and stated that equity is long overdue.

Supporting the probation officers, as well, were CSEA Statewide Executive Vice President Jarvis Brown and Southern Region President Rosemarie Kukys.

Senator Hinchey also read a statement in support of this legislation from Assemblywoman Amy R. Paulin, who sponsored the corresponding bill in the Assembly.

The legislation has passed the Senate and Assembly. The next step is for Gov. Hochul to sign it into law.

CSEA members from New York State and Dutchess County are representing their agencies at the Dutchess County Fair, so stop by their booths if you're at the fair today! 🎡

This morning, Southern Region President Rosemarie Kukys stopped by the Office of the State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli Unclaimed Funds booth in Building A, where she was assisted by CSEA member Jennifer Thomas.

Jennifer and her co-workers have done a fantastic job this week helping New Yorkers recoup funds. It's definitely worth taking a few minutes to see if you have money from closed accounts owed to you. The OSC staff will gladly help explain the process!

One of the special parts of volunteering at our Dutchess County Fair booth is when members and retirees share their stories ❤️

Tiffany Jones and Jaime Chapman just met this retiree member, who has been retired for 28 years! He started with the state in 1970 and worked out of NYSDOT's 8-2 Residency in Red Hook 👷‍♂️ We enjoyed meeting this retired road warrior.

He is proud to be Tier 1 and encouraged active members to keep up the ongoing fight for pension equity. We've made strides and will keep up our advocacy. Everyone deserves a job with a pension that will allow well-deserved retirement security!

CSEA members: New York Boulders Baseball has Labor Union Appreciation Night on Thursday, August 27th at Clover Stadium in Pomona, Rockland County. The Boulders are happy to offer CSEA members $1 tickets (with no fees). First pitch is at 7 p.m. against the Ottawa Titans.
