United Way of Greater Baytown Area & Chambers County

United Way of Greater Baytown Area & Chambers County United Way advances the common good by creating opportunities for all. United Way isn’t about short-term charity, it’s about lasting change.

United Way fights for the education, financial stability, basic needs, and health of every person in our community. We look at the big picture: what resources are lacking – down to food, shelter and health needs – and how we can address that to keep kids on track to graduate and families in their homes. Community Impact grants are made available because of your generosity, and volunteers who caref

ully review requests for funding. The grant cycle begins in late fall and the program funding announcement is made in June. The agencies that have received program funding are required to submit quarterly reports that are also carefully monitored. The Board has been working on Impact 2025, the forward-thinking, community-minded strategic plan. The plan includes the funding goals, centered on four focus areas: Education, Financial Stability, and Health and newly added this year, Basic Needs. Click here to learn more about the focus areas. In addition to funding needed local programs, your United Way has been supporting disaster response. Following Hurricane Harvey, UWGBACC began a long-term recovery program (BACC DR). Nearly 90 homes were rebuilt, with a majority of these in Chambers County. In response to the COVID 19 Pandemic, funding was provided to local agencies providing critical services, such as rent, utilities, food, childcare and prescriptions. UWGBACC is here year round to help our community.

That was a night. 💙

On June 5, we gathered for the United for Good Gala, and we’re still feeling grateful for everyone who made it so special.
Thank you to every person who joined us and helped make the evening what it was. The board, the staff, the volunteers, the sponsors, the donors, the partner agencies, the table hosts, the entertainment, the catering team, and every guest who came to celebrate eighty years of United Way in Greater Baytown & Chambers County.

We celebrated eighty years of food on tables, books in hands, clothes on kids, counselors in classrooms, and rent paid through hard months. None of it happens without the people in that room and the communities you represent.

Here’s a recap of an unforgettable evening. From the bottom of our hearts: thank you. Truly. 💙

Here's where the work goes. 💙

This week alone, in Greater Baytown & Chambers County:
💙 Kids picked up a fresh book from a Little Free Library
💙 Seniors received food boxes packed by volunteers at Hearts and Hands of Baytown
💙 A family kept their lights on with help from Love Network
💙 A neighbor in crisis dialed 211 and got connected to a person who knew where to send them next
💙 A counselor sat with a kid who's been having a hard time

That's an average week. Eighty years of average weeks add up to something extraordinary.

Thank you for being the reason the work goes on. 💙

Three weeks left to give to the 2026 United is the Way campaign. 💙

June 30th is the last day to make your gift count toward this year. After that, the dollars start rolling into next year's commitments. So if you've been meaning to give, this is the window!

A gift of any size goes right back to work in Greater Baytown & Chambers County: in the pantries, the school closets, the rental assistance funds, the counseling offices, and the 211 phone lines that pick up at 3 a.m. when a neighbor needs a person to talk to.

Together is the only way it ever works.

Meet Trula Sattelmaier, our Book Coordinator and the woman behind every Little Free Library in our region. 🙌

Trula grew up in Baytown as one of five kids raised by a single mom. There wasn't much to go around. No bikes. No car. Few toys. But there was a bookcase full of classics, and there was the Bookmobile that parked on her block every week. That visit was the highlight of her childhood.
She never forgot what books did for her. And today, full circle, she's the one putting books on shelves for the next generation.

"I volunteer with United Way to put books into the hands of children who otherwise may not have easy access to books. Books teach children how to think and grow into thoughtful adults. Books spark the imagination and open the world."

Trula first came to United Way through Hearts and Hands of Baytown, packing food boxes. Watching what those boxes meant to seniors stuck with her. It still does.
Today, Trula helps make sure every child has access to books across Greater Baytown and Chambers County through our Little Free Libraries, getting diverse, inclusive books onto shelves for families throughout the community.

We asked Trula what motivates her to give back. Her answer says it all:
"As a retired professional, knowing that United Way helps in ways that I needed when I was growing up."

To Trula, and to every volunteer who turns their own story into a gift for someone else, thank you. 💙
