October 9. A day of celebration. A day that changed everything. 💜

Three years ago today, on October 9, 2023, our founder, Coach Sean Wallace, received the devastating news that he had Stage IV pancreatic cancer.

It was also his daughter Sadijah’s birthday.

Just hours after receiving a diagnosis that would forever change the course of his life and his family’s, Coach was getting out of his hospital bed to singing Happy Birthday to his daughter.

In a moment when he had every reason to focus on himself, he was still thinking about someone else.

That’s who Coach was.

A father first. A man who loved deeply. A servant leader whose commitment to showing up for others never wavered, even in life’s most difficult moments.

Today, as we celebrate the birthday of our Executive Director, Sadijah Wallace, we also reflect on the day that changed the Wallace family’s lives forever.

This video is more than a birthday song. It’s a glimpse into the heart of the man behind the mission and a reminder of the love that continues to guide our work.

Helping others is who we are and not just what we do.

Some dates hold more meaning than others.

Today, we celebrate the birthday of our Executive Director, Sadijah Wallace, whose leadership, dedication, and commitment to service continue to move The Wallace Foundation forward.

But October 9 is more than a birthday in the Wallace family.

On this day in 2023, Coach Sean Wallace received his Stage IV pancreatic cancer diagnosis. What had always been a day of celebration became a day that would forever change the course of our family’s story.

Even in the face of unimaginable circumstances, Coach never lost sight of what mattered most: family, faith, love, and the importance of showing up for others.

Today, we honor both the joy and the weight this date carries. We celebrate Sadijah not only for another year of life, but for the strength, compassion, and purpose she brings to continuing the work her father began.
