Promoting awareness and appreciation of traditional and contemporary forms of printmaking. The Mid America Print Council is an educational and community-based organization that focuses on all print related arts. Embracing both time-honored and innovative approaches, we promote awareness and appreciation of traditional and contemporary forms of printmaking. We are an inclusive association for indiv

iduals and institutions, administering the sharing of technical and critical information regarding print. Honoring our predecessors, we aim to bring new and sustained interest to this unique medium. Active on multiple platforms, MAPC is an organization that provides members with access to a network of printmakers, resources, opportunities, newsletters, and a biennial conference that features speakers, workshops, panels, shows, and exchanges. Through calls for participation, we organize members’ exhibitions and publish The Mid America Print Council Journal. Our goal is to recognize, advocate, and continue research in historical, current, and future print technologies.

MAPC Food Voucher Program 🍲

To help reduce food insecurity during the MAPC Conference at LSU, we are offering limited food vouchers to conference members in need.

Vouchers are partially funded through MAPC Silent Auction proceeds and can be used at participating LSU campus dining vendors.

✨ No application or explanation of need required
✨ First-come, first-served
✨ Limit 2 vouchers per person
✨ Each voucher covers approximately one meal ($12 value)

Reserved vouchers will be distributed with conference nametags at registration, with a small number also available onsite during the conference.

This program helps make conference participation more accessible for our printmaking community by reducing barriers to attending workshops, exhibitions, and events.

🌟Member Spotlight🌟 Today, we are sharing the work of Michael Barnes!!

“The recent body of graphic works by Michael Barnes depicts figures that wander or are stranded within the vacuum that has been created for them by the world in which they exist. They are oblivious to their immediate surroundings and the menial tasks to which they are assigned or have voluntarily adopted to cope with their existence. The work addresses the destructive nature and absurdities that so readily prevail for human kind, along with themes of mortality and the philosophical questions of existence in general. The images are concerned with environment, social decay leaning towards an inward and isolated path, and cynicism about the historical evolution of so-called civilization and its effects upon the world and its inhabitants.”

🌟Member Spotlight🌟 Today, we are sharing the work of Cheryl Hochberg!

Cheryl Agulnick Hochberg is an Arizona-based painter and printmaker whose projects explore the idea of “place”. She begins her projects by spending extensive time in locations where -at first- she is a stranger, and where people, ecology, landscape, and wildlife are all unfamiliar. By walking and exploring - but also through conversation and study – she gathers material that becomes her creative content. In the studio, she works in formats ranging from painting and printmaking to installation and public art. By way of these approaches, she strives to give voice to the land, and to represent the particular sensibility of each location.

Cheryl’s recent work has been generously supported by Artist Residency opportunities that allow her to work on site and to explore efficiently. In recent years (since 2016), she has worked at Ucross and Jentel Arts in Wyoming, Play Summerlake in Oregon, Guttenberg Arts in New Jersey, the Ratamo Center in Jyvaskyla, Finland, and most recently, the Guanlan Original Printmaking Base in Shenzhen, China.

Particularly well-known for her printmaking, Cheryl has exhibited her relief prints both nationally and internationally. In the US, her work has been included in exhibitions at Manhattan Graphics (NYC), the Brinton Museum (Wyoming), the Oso Bay Juried Print Exhibition of the Americas (Texas), and the Lux Centre for the Arts (Nebraska). Outside the US, her prints were included in the 2024 Taiwan International Print Biennial, the3rd International Print Biennial in Yerevan, Armenia, in the Wuhan Biennial (China), and in several exhibitions at the China Printmaking Museum (Shenzhen, China).

🌟Member Spotlight🌟 Today, we are sharing the work of Doug Billings! 🎉

From Doug: As an artist, my primary purpose is to create images, either acrylic paintings or hand pulled prints, based on my interests; which function as pictorial interpretations of my experiences. As a contemporary artist, I use forms of expression; methods, techniques, and processes that are considered to be "modernist" in style.
