💚Mayday Alert for the Myers family💚

Michigan’s Jamie Myers is a Captain with Hudson FD, a paid-on-call department where he has served since 2003. During his time with the department, Jamie has served as a Firefighter, Lieutenant, and Captain, working alongside his brother and cousin as they continue a family tradition that began with their grandfather. In early 2026, Jamie began experiencing shortness of breath, heart palpitations, and minor chest pain, symptoms he knew were different from the heart murmur he had lived with for years. After several appointments and tests throughout April and May, his doctors determined that his condition was more serious than his existing heart murmur and referred him to a specialist.

In June 2026, while simultaneously undergoing testing and working to attain his NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor I certification, Jamie learned that he had an aortic aneurysm and a leaking aortic valve, requiring open-heart surgery and preventing him from performing his regular firefighting duties. After spending much of June and the first two weeks of July attending appointments and undergoing additional testing, Jamie was advised to stop participating in fire department activities and was placed on medical leave from the Hudson Fire Department on July 17. On July 29, he received a surgical date of August 31, with a minimum recovery period of eight weeks if everything goes as planned, and he has also been on medical leave from his full-time job since July 17. Jamie is the primary source of income for his family, which includes his two young boys and his fiancée, who has also had to leave her job while serving as the primary caregiver for her father during his battle with Stage 4 cancer. Unfortunately, Jamie's employer does not offer short-term disability insurance, and by the time he learned he would need it, he was no longer eligible to purchase supplemental coverage because of his diagnosis, leaving his family facing the loss of at least three and a half months of income during his surgery and recovery. Let’s lighten the load for Cpt. Meyers and family while they face this head on.

Please keep the family of Firefighter/Operator Ovid Chenier and the men and women of St John’s Firefighters in your prayer.

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the St. John Firefighters Association Local 4784 announces the passing of our brother, Firefighter/Operator Ovide “Oppie” Chenier.

Oppie began his fire service career as a volunteer with the LaPlace Volunteer Fire Department before joining the career department, where he faithfully served his community for many years. He had a true passion for the fire service and took great pride in mentoring and instructing new recruits as they began their own careers. His dedication to the profession extended beyond the fireground, previously serving as Secretary and Treasurer of our Association and always working to support his fellow firefighters.

To know Oppie was to know someone with an incredibly generous heart. He was a devoted father, an exceptional firefighter, a gifted instructor, and a loyal friend. He was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation if it meant helping someone else. His compassion, humility, and unwavering commitment to others left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

The loss of Oppie leaves a tremendous void in our department, our Association, and throughout the fire service family. While his passing came far too soon, his legacy will live on through the countless firefighters he mentored, the lives he touched, and the example he set each and every day.

To Oppie’s family, we extend our deepest condolences and prayers. Please know that you are surrounded by an entire brotherhood and sisterhood who mourn alongside you and who will forever honor his memory.

Rest easy, Brother. Your watch is over. We have it from here.

The St. George Professional Firefighters Association extends our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and constituents of Senator Larry Selders following his sudden passing.

We are grateful for his service to the people of Louisiana and honor the time he dedicated to public service. Our thoughts and prayers are with all who knew and loved him during this difficult time.

Please keep the family of Corporal Walter Brooks and the members of the Baton Rouge Police in your prayers.

It is with heavy hearts that Baton Rouge Police Department grieves the loss of Corporal Walter Brooks.

Corporal Brooks passed away on Monday, June 15, 2026, after being transported from his home to a local hospital with health complications.

Corporal Brooks proudly served the citizens of Baton Rouge as an Officer since 2011. He was currently assigned to Uniform Patrol, 1st District Evening Shift.

Please keep his family, blood and blue, in your thoughts and prayers.

This fee is a critical part of our funding and has been used for decades to sustain the fire protection and emergency medical services you rely on every day. This is NOT a new tax!
