📜On this day in history... August 7, 1782:

244 years ago, General George Washington created the Badge of Military Merit, known today as The Purple Heart, to honor U.S. service members who have been wounded or killed in combat. This is the oldest military decoration still given to U.S. service members!

📜On this day in history... August 4, 1790:

236 years ago, Congress authorized Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton's proposal to build 10 cutters to protect the new nation's revenue. The "System of Cutters" (now known as U.S. Coast Guard) were placed under the control of the Treasury Department.

What an incredible week! ❤️🇺🇸

Our inaugural Vacation Liberty School was everything we hoped it would be and more. Throughout the week, students explored American history, learned about the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and our system of government, participated in hands-on activities, and made memories that will last a lifetime.

None of this would have been possible without our amazing volunteers, teachers, families, and, most importantly, our incredible students. Your enthusiasm, curiosity, and love of learning made this first year such a success.

Thank you to everyone who helped make Vacation Liberty School a reality. We are so grateful for the support of our community and are already excited about making next year’s program even bigger and better!
